Posted on: Obion County, Tennessee, Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/ObionObits/618 Surname: Jones, Killion ------------------------- 12-20-1945 William Colona Jones, 66 a native of Obion County who had not been well since he returned from the Spanish American War, died at 12.30 this morning in the Baird-Brewer Hospital at Dyersburg from a pistol wound in the head. For many years he had lived at the home of a brother Honer Jones, near Clayton but 2 weeks ago he weint to Dyersburg to make his home with another brother Bernice Jones former clerk at the Shatz and Byer store here, who went to Dyersburg 2 months ago to take over the operation of a grocery store. Bernice Jones said this morning that his brother and he were sitting in the front room of their Dyersburg residence Wednesday night at about 10:30 when William stood up and complained of abdominal pains. "He walked to his bedroom at the rear of the house and it was bout 11p., that I heard a pistol shot" Bernice Jones said " I went to the bedroom and found him unconscious. The bullet entered his right temple and emerged from the left side of his head." The wounded man was rushed to the Dyersburg hospital in an ambulance and died at 12:30 am. William Jones had been a farmer all of his life. He was born in Obion County, Oct 8 1879, the son of Jim and Adeline Killion Jones. He was married as a young man but his wife died some 30 years ago. He was a memeber of the Reelfoot Baptist church and of the Milton Tally Post, American Legion. He is survived by 4 brothers, homer of near Clayton, Bernice of Dyersburg, Charles D of Caruthersville, Mo and Edward of Lulbourne, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Friday afternoon at the Antioch Memorial Methodist Church with Ref John R Cecil of West Hickman, Ky., officiating, and internment will take place in the church cemetery.
