Surnames: Wood Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TgB.2ACE/2326 Message Board Post: Hi there! My name is Dot Wood and I live in OKC, OK. I have been researching my end of the Wood Pile for about a year and a half. After asking the kind lady at the Giles Co. Courthouse for some assistance she directed me to a name, Mathew Wood. Here is where I stand at this point. My GGGreat Grandfather was John Wood. b. 1805 presumably in Giles Co. TN. married a Tennessee Richey there in 1829. Had 11 children. The youngest was 7 1/2 months old when John died. He had bought and sold land in Giles Co. as well as in Obion Co. TN. Tennessee Richey Wood moved the entire family to Obion soon after John's death and then died herself by 1853. The older, grown children parted out the younger ones to raise, then Wagon-Trained it to TX after the younger kids were grown. My GGreat Grandather was Zachary Taylor, the youngest of the 11. What I am looking for now is John's (b.1805) parents. The kind lady at the courthouse in Giles Co. did some extensive research and suggests that John was a son of Mathew Wood (& Rebecca Young) as the names of both families’ children are identical. Like, Pleasant, William, John, Rebecca, Delila and Mary. This would make John the first born then, not Pleasant as records show. Assuming John is Mathew Wood's son. Some digging found me with Mathew's Father, a John Wood, b. in Dinwiddie, VA and d. Hancock Co. GA. John's father was Richard Wood who was married to Delilah Mayes about 1733, in Prince George, VA. Richard's father was (Aron) Aaron Wood, b. abt. 1708. If this is all true, who then is Aaron's father? I looked at a "Family Tree" index on Rootsweb and noticed some inserts for Wood people from England. Anyone know who Aaron's people are? A strong family trait is a gap in the front teeth, + many lefties and rare "A" blood types. Any help is ppreciated. please reply to divadot@juno.com. Thanks in advance! ~Dot
