    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: JONES, THORNTON, VOWELL, CLINARD Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TgB.2ACE/1942.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Hi Mott, This must be the S. T. JONES listed in the 1870 Weakley Co. TN Census. I had a really hard time reading the image, but here's my best guess. JONES, S. T. 36 Farmer TN Dam---s (must be Demaris) 29 TN Thomas D. 2 TN Mary A. 1 TN WALDON, Mary 28 TN William S. 6 TN JONES, Amanda 10 TN S------? 3 TN (Name may also be Starling) Ben G. 3 mo. TN I'm wondering if the 36 yr. old S.T. could be the son of my gg grandfather, Andrew J. JONES. He had a son whose name was listed in the 1850 and 1860 Weakley Co. TN Census as what looks like Tecumche/Tecumseh. His age is listed as 14 in 1850 and 22 in 1860. Thereafter, he doesn't appear in A.J.'s household. There seems to be some connection to the Presley THORNTON who lived in the household of William JONES in 1840 Weakley Co., but I haven't been able to sort all this out. I'm still assuming that my family is descended through William JONES who was a slaveowner in 1830 and 1840 Weakley Co., but my only evidence of that is that there are deeds of gift showing slaves given by William JONES to the children of Andrew J. and his brother, Stephen. The children are listed as the grandchildren of William JONES. I'm wondering if they might have been great-grandchildren. I believe all these people may be part of the same line. One sister of A.J., Sarah, married W.S. SCOTT who owned much land in the area of McConnell and is said to have donated land on which the original little town was built. My g grandmother, Paradine, dau. of A.J. and sister of Tecumseh/Tecumche, married Davd H. VOWELL, and they had my grandmother, Ludie Paradine VOWELL, b. 1878. Ludie married Henry W. CLINAR! D in Weakley Co. They had my mother Lillian. She married Aaron Andrew SIMMONS, and I am their child. By the way, according to his will, Andrew J. JONES had a sister named Ada. Please feel free to e-mail me if you like. I believe we may have a connection. Thanks very much for your response. Brenda
