Wade on Nov 5, 1857. Robert was the son of my gg grandparents- Samuel and Saarah Rogers Wade. Just outside Union City, TN there is a road named Catron Road. We had cousins Homer Catron and his sister (cannot remember her name to save my soul). Also here is Memphis we had Mary Ally Taylor. Her mother was a sister to Homer. Mother always said she was a beautiful person. Also there was a Catron on the Supreme Court. He was from the Nashville area. I have an address given by Walter Chandler in 1937 about Justice John Catron of the United States Supreme Court. The address was given here in Memphis .. Very interesting gentleman..

Surnames: JONES, THORNTON, VOWELL, CLINARD Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TgB.2ACE/1942.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Hi Mott, This must be the S. T. JONES listed in the 1870 Weakley Co. TN Census. I had a really hard time reading the image, but here's my best guess. JONES, S. T. 36 Farmer TN Dam---s (must be Demaris) 29 TN Thomas D. 2 TN Mary A. 1 TN WALDON, Mary 28 TN William S. 6 TN JONES, Amanda 10 TN S------? 3 TN (Name may also be Starling) Ben G. 3 mo. TN I'm wondering if the 36 yr. old S.T. could be the son of my gg grandfather, Andrew J. JONES. He had a son whose name was listed in the 1850 and 1860 Weakley Co. TN Census as what looks like Tecumche/Tecumseh. His age is listed as 14 in 1850 and 22 in 1860. Thereafter, he doesn't appear in A.J.'s household. There seems to be some connection to the Presley THORNTON who lived in the household of William JONES in 1840 Weakley Co., but I haven't been able to sort all this out. I'm still assuming that my family is descended through William JONES who was a slaveowner in 1830 and 1840 Weakley Co., but my only evidence of that is that there are deeds of gift showing slaves given by William JONES to the children of Andrew J. and his brother, Stephen. The children are listed as the grandchildren of William JONES. I'm wondering if they might have been great-grandchildren. I believe all these people may be part of the same line. One sister of A.J., Sarah, married W.S. SCOTT who owned much land in the area of McConnell and is said to have donated land on which the original little town was built. My g grandmother, Paradine, dau. of A.J. and sister of Tecumseh/Tecumche, married Davd H. VOWELL, and they had my grandmother, Ludie Paradine VOWELL, b. 1878. Ludie married Henry W. CLINAR! D in Weakley Co. They had my mother Lillian. She married Aaron Andrew SIMMONS, and I am their child. By the way, according to his will, Andrew J. JONES had a sister named Ada. Please feel free to e-mail me if you like. I believe we may have a connection. Thanks very much for your response. Brenda

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TgB.2ACE/1177.1188 Message Board Post: I may have a bit more information than you on Stovall Cemetary, so I will respond. I was there the 3rd Sunday in May for Decoration Day, at which only 6 showed up this year. It happens every year at 2:00 or 2:30. Families ut flowers on graves and a minister has a short talk, with a few songs in memory of those burried there. This cemetary has been a special focus of all my visits back from TX, N.M., AR, etc., as a child because when I saw it, I knew my grandparent's farm was just around the next road to the left, on the right. The old farm house has been replaced by a brick one, and somebody else owns it, but tree is still familiar enought to me. I am not sure the name of the Stovall who donated the land for the cemetary, but it was either 4 generations back from me or the relative of that generation. I am 68 now and recall going to meetings in a "brush arbor" in the summers on visits there. It sat on the right as you turn into the cemetary and had posts that held a b! rush/stick roof over it, with benches under it for seating. My father, E.W. Stovall preached there at times when I was a child. Others preached there too. There was never a church building on that site. This was used by all, but the Stovalls were mostly Methodists. My father was schooled at Emory & Henry and ordained as a Methodist minister, but later converted and was baptized into the Church of Christ and spent 58 years preaching. He died in 1981 and my mother died 3 days later. They are burried in Stovall Cemetary as are all my relatives going back at least to the fourth generation. If you need to know how to get to the cemetary, I can tell you. It is kept up by a fund which is established at the Rives, TN bank, (1st State Bank, maybe) to which my Aunt Estelle Stovall Walker, made a sizable contribution at her death to endow it, but the interest doesn't quite pay for upkeep, so we donate to that fund for mowing. It is always mowed when I drop by there on trips.! Your family names are familiar to me but I have no real information, just memories of Aunt 'Stelle's speaking of the Milners and Palmers. I hope this helps in some way. Probe with more questions if you wish.
