    1. [TNObion] Call for History Authors in Tennessee
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TgB.2ACE/2222 Message Board Post: Arcadia Publishing is currently seeking qualified writers and historians to join with us in an exciting publishing venture to document America's epic story. You may already be familiar with Images of America, our pictorial history series, but Making of America is a new narrative-based series, focusing on the history of towns and cities, and their dynamic uniqueness, across the nation. The idea behind Making of America is to map, town by town, city by city, the entire country, creating a quilt of stories to unite the nation. We have only two not yet published Making of America books out of Tennessee and we'd like to see that list grow. Books in this series contain a comprehensive, chronological history of a community's development over the centuries, highlighting major events that had an impact on its citizens and landscape. The narrative consists of roughly 45,000 to 55,000 words and is accompanied by an average of 120 historically relevant images (photographs, postcards, sketches, maps, etc.). Each town holds a unique fragment of United States history; we strive to capture these moments in time for everyone to enjoy in a highly readable and visual way. If you are interested in this new publishing opportunity from Arcadia Publishing or know someone who might be, please contact me at swilliams@arcadiapublishing.com to request a basic information packet. We look forward to hearing from you.

Surnames: Alphan, Adams, Dean, Deen, Hendley, Hensley, Puckett Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TgB.2ACE/2217 Message Board Post: I'm trying to confirm information about John David Adams, b. circa 1862. According to my info, John David Adams, (also known as Dave or David?) was the son of Richard Adams b.?, d. before 1870) and Ruth H. Alphan (b. circa 1831-d. after 1879). They married about 2/14/1854 in Obion Co.. Richard and Ruth's other children included: Nancy M. Adams, b. circa 1855; Stephen A. Adams, b. circa 1859; and Richard b. circa 1865. Also, according to other records John D. Adams was a medical doctor, living in Hornbeak in the 1920s. Are Dr. John D. Adams and Dave Adams the same person??? Dave and Elizabeth Deen Adams had at least two children. They were Laura Adams Puckett, 1888-1980 and Sam Adams, 1886-1980. Elizabeth (Betty or Bettie) Jane Deen (or Dean) was born in 1862 and died in 1962 at 99 years of age. She was the daughter of John (J.G.B.) Deen, 1841-1921 and Margaret S. Hendley (or Hensley) Deen 1844-?. She is buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Obion County. The informant for both Elizabeth Adams and Laura Adams Puckett's death certificate information was Mr. Fred Grisham of Kenton. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Carroll. According to his death certificate, Delbert was born 11/30/1897 and died 1/21/1968. He was a retired farmer, a widower, and was the son of Henry Carroll and Alice Dean. He was buried in Cobbs Chapel Cemetery, near Hornbeak and the informant was Jennie Montgomery (his daughter?). His wife was Mary Gills Carroll (1/14/1900-6/14/1959). She is also buried in Cobbs Chapel Cemetery. I believe (and this is the part I'm trying to confirm!) that Delbert's mother, was the Alice Deen or Dean, born circa 1881, the daughter of Monroe J. Deen (1854-1922) and Jennie Pyles (1861-1924). Can anyone help me confirm or disprove this information about Alice Dean? If this information about Alice is correct I have quite a bit of Deen/Dean information I am willing to share. Thanks, Dave

Surnames: JONES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TgB.2ACE/2206.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi David, I appreciate the offer of information. I still don't know a lot about my Jones family, but from what I can gather they seem to have lived in Weakley Co., almost exclusively. This may prove to be incorrect when I find out more about them so if it's not too much trouble I wouldn't mind having a look at whatever you might have from 1800 to around 1900. I know that my A. J. Jones (my gg grandfather), son of one of the Williams in my line, died in 1895. I have his will, but only his brother, W. T. (He'd have been born prob. bet. 1810 - 1820.), his sister, Ada, and an Aunt Rebecca Jones are mentioned. He did have other siblings named Sarah H., b. 1812 (married W. S. Scott who owned thousands of acres around McConnell, TN. McConnell was part of Weakley at one time and then Obion - (or vice versa; I don't have my notes in front of me.) due to boundary changes.), and Stephen F., b. 1823. I can share what info I have with you by snail mail if you'd like to have it. At this poi! nt, I have no idea whether there might be a connection between the Weakley and Obion Joneses, but there's always a chance. Since Jones was such a common name, I've found it a difficult line to research. Thanks very much. Brenda
