Just wanted to share some information with the list. I spent the day at the library in Caruthersville, Pemiscot County, MO last week looking through the marriage records....there were a LOT of marriages for people from Obion county. So if your marriages are missing from Obion County go over to Caruthersville and check them out. They have microfilm from about the 1870's or so thru about 1970 or so Don't know why they would come to Missouri to get married???? Anybody have any clues. Tricia
I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the family of Zelma Flowers McNeely, and trust they will not be upset that I have posted her obituary on the Gibson and Obion County lists, as well as my personal Dickson list. I do not know whether Mrs. McNeely's family is descended from Thomas McNeely who married Letha Dickson, but if so I would dearly love to correspond with them. My ggggrandfather John Dickson was Letha's father. Following is the obituary which appeared today in The Commerciall Appeal and all I know of Letha's marriage and children. Joyce Dixon Helmers THE COMMERCIAL APPEAL, Memphis, Tennessee Tuesday, September 19, 2000 KENTON - Zelma Flowers McNeely, 90, homemaker, died of heart faiulre Sunday at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Kames Funeral Home with burial in Macedonia Cemetery. She was a member of Kenton First Baptist Church. Mrs. McNeely, the widow of Marshall McNeely, leaves a daughter, Margie Sue Bryant of Kenton; a son, Bobby McNeely of Rutherford, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Descendants of Letha Dickson McNeely 1. LETHA1 DICKSON (JOHNA) was born Abt. 1817 in NC, and died Aft. 1850. Her parents were John and Sarah Dickson, who died in Gibson Co., TN in 1836 and 1838. She married (1) SPIVEY FULLER March 12, 1832 in Gibson Co, TN. She married (2) THOMAS P. MCNEELY November 21, 1836 in Gibson Co, TN. Notes for LETHA DICKSON: Thomas McNeely witnessed John Dickson's will. Leatha and Thomas McNeely lived in Obion Co., TN in 1838 per Madelon. Children of LETHA DICKSON and THOMAS MCNEELY are: i. THOMAS2 MCNEELY, b. 1838. ii. WILLIAM MCNEELY, b. 1841. iii. JOHN MCNEELY, b. 1846. iv. ROBERT MCNEELY, b. 1850.
Do any of our Obion County residents on the list know how to make contact with a person affliated with Chapel Hill Methodist Church-Cemetery? Are church services still held there? If anyone has any ideas within the next day.....I would appreciate it. I'm going to be in Obion County this weekend. Thanks, Dora

I know that they moved to Mississippi County, Arkansas in 1853, but would like to find where they were before 1850. I know that Robert was born in Virginia between 1795 and 1820. Mary's maiden name was Bone. I would like to hear from anyone searching this line with any information. Thank-you.

Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Obion/1334 Surname: Parker ------------------------- Notice: The John Parker who was the son of Elisha Parker of Obion County, Tenn. was NOT the John F. Parker who married Permelia Caroline Laird. This couple never lived in Obion County. There is incorrect info floating around about this. I have researched both families and published a book and will be glad to furnish info to anyone that needs it. Also help them to find the right one. John F. Parker was born in Gibson County, Tn. and married Permelia Caroline Laird in Massac County, Illinois.
Can anyone connect to these dates, names, places in Obion County TN: W.E.GREER witnessed the Last Will & Testament of Joseph Calvin Brownlow in 1881. Property in GILES & GIBSON counties were referenced. JANE GREER, b. about 1840ish was the daughter of MARTHA GREER. JANE GREER married HUGH COOK BROWNLOW between 1870-1885. Any lead, however small, may be the key to help me locate the GREER family of my great-grandmother, Jane Greer Brownlow. Thanks for your help, Leland Carter Texas

I am interested in a Browlow connection to my Dickson family. Does anyone have any ideas aside of possible neighbors? Governor Brownlow gave my Dickson a reprieve very quickly for some reason (there are no governor's papers to this affect) and I would love to know why? Help!
