Yes, I know what you are saying , but I have run into the case where I have found marriage records that did not get entered into the book you are talking about. The book you are referring to Obion Co, TN Marriage Records was published by the Reelfoot Chapter DAR for the years 1824-1877. I am just trying to say, if you think the marriage record is there, and you can't find it in that book (DAR) then you can go through those marriage books, I listed , yourself. I know from experience it helped me. You just never know until you look. These are the years for the early marriage records available at the court house. They are located in the County Clerk's Office. They are not indexed. Also, in these books you will find some early county minute records and early tax lists. They combined them in the same books. There is a 2 year skip from 1855-1857 in the books. 1838-1845 Book 1 1845-1850 Book 2 1850-1855 Book 3 1857-1877 Book 4 Gay Mathis

The 2 vol. of Obion Co. histories also have a section in the back for memorial tributes. Quite a few of these are old photos with the family members identified. Don't forget to look there. I found some lovely old photos of my lines that I'd never seen before. I like to add photos to go with each family when I am lucky enough to find them. Virginia

My ggrandfather was born in what is now Obion County in 1815 -- where should I be looking for records of that time before Obion County was formed? His name was James McCoy and he was born at Jacksonville (which I believe is now South Fulton) in 1815. I'm trying to find out who James' parents were but am not sure where I should be searching for this information. Thanks for any tips on where to look.

An Ephraim CATRON, suname reportedly Anglicized from KETTERING, settled on an adjacent claim. He was also from Neodesha and the 1900 census shows that he was born in KY in 1861. My COLEs had a maddening habit of moving back & forth across the state line and the CATRONs could certainly have done the same. Will be happy to share the information I have on the CATRONs who came to Oklahoma Territory. Please forgive the intrusion of a test message -- for the past month I've been able to monitor the list by forwarded mail and respond privately, but have had difficulty in posting to the list itself. The COLEs and CROCKETTs of Obion Co. are my direct lines. SIMMONS and WHEELER are collateral lines that I've also traced from Obion Co. through KS to central OK. The WARD surname ties in somehow but I'm still struggling to discover the details. For example: there is a John COLE living in southern Lincoln Co., Oklahoma Territory, in 1900, who wasborn in Arkansas to parents born in TN. I'd love to compare notes with someone who knows more about his family because I can't prove or disprove a link to my own COLE line. Supposedly, some of our COLEs did move to Arkansas from Obion Co., but we lost touch and I don't even know which of our unaccounted-for COLEs disappeared into Arkansas. Actually, I'm interested in ANY family from Obion Co. that ended up in Lincoln, Logan, or Oklahoma Counties of Oklahoma Territory.
