It was for 640 acres in Obion County. I would like to find out who paid tax on this land...if a members of John Cummins' family actually inhabited the land and if not to whom the warrant or land was sold. Can anyone provide information about the tax records for Obion, if they exist and in what form and whether deed records after 1824 also exist. Thanks.

Nancy-I think you are referring to the 1890 Federal Census. I don't know much about that except that there was a fire and some was destroyed. I don't know what survived? Does anyone have the answer to this, especially as it pertains to Obion County? My local Family History Center has the microfilm of the 1900 Obion County Federal Census, and I plan to start looking at it this week. The names of the individuals and widows have been transcribed unto the Obion Co Genealogy Site, here again, by another nice lady ;-) The may be viewed by going to the Obion Co censuses link. The microfilm is at the library here. I do not recall now what all is recorded about the veteran. Dennis in Union City©

The Verhines also had connections to my Curlin, Edwards, Kirby, and Whitley families. I have heard my grandmother talk of them. Most of my above mentioned relatives also had connections to Graves County in the Dublin Community. I am sure that you know there are some Verhine headstones out in Shady Grove Cem which is the area where my relatives resided (and lots are buried). Several years ago I came across a Verhine's automotive repair shop in Roswell New Mexico who was from this family.
