"BOB" - age 81, MINCEY, WILLIE "RUTH" - age 95, of Oak Ridge, ========================================= FORDE, ROBERT HUGH - age 77, of Oak Ridge passed away Monday, December 8, 2003 at home. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Oak Ridge. A loving father that was involved with ASHRAE, Knights of Columbus, High School Booster member for Football and Band, a Boys Club coach and an avid bowler for many years. He was proceeded in death by: his wife, Betty Sue Forde. He is survived by: his children, Deborah M.Beachboard and husband James L. Beachboard of Hixson, Patricia H. Forde of Oak Ridge, Vennesa J. Smallen and husband Fredrick P. Smallen of Oak Ridge, Robert K. Forde and wife Janet E. Forde of Tullahoma, Julie M.See and husband Scott W. See of Chattanooga, and Phillip L. Forde and wife Tritina M. Forde of Kingsport. He is also survived by: his sister, Teresa Donovan of Melbourne, FL. He is also survived by: 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Family visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.. with Rosary following at Martin Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial at Anderson Memorial Gardens. FOWLER, PEGGY G. - age 61, passed on December 9, 2003 at her home in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Mrs. Fowler was born on April 4, 1942 near Athens, Georgia. She was a graduate of Athens High School and Clemson University where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics. She married Ron Fowler in 1961 and the couple moved to Oak Ridge in 1968. Mrs. Fowler was a long-time employee at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and was employed several years at The Department of Energy K-25. She worked in several divisions at ORNL, the most recent being Business Services in The SAP Technical Support Group. In the 1980's she owned her own business which provided computing services to ORNL. Mrs. Fowler was employed for briefer periods at Science Applications International Corporation, The Department of Energy Technical Information Center and The Maxima Corporation. She had many interests including traveling, flower gardening and reading. She also hiked frequently in the Smoky Mountains and the Canadian Rockies. Recently she was a volunteer at Aid to Distressed Families of Anderson County, providing assistance to low income families. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Fowler is survived by her two sons, Alan Fowler and his wife, Michelle and Joel Fowler and his wife, Amanda, all of Chattanooga and by her mother, Bonnie Seagraves of Athens, Georgia. A memorial service will be held at United Church Chapel on the Hill in Oak Ridge. Arrangements are pending. East Tennessee Mortuary Service in charge. 539-2458. HERNDON, JEAN MARS - 81, of Oak Ridge died December 7th at Methodist Medical Center after a brief illness. Born August 24, 1922 in LaFollette, TN, she was the daughter of C.W. Mars and Claudia Grace Alexander Mars. She is survived by: her husband of 55 years Preston G. Herndon; and four daughters and spouses, Gail and Tom Fennimore of Charlotte, NC, Caryl and John Hall of Troutman, NC, Leigh Baron of Tipp City, OH and Gwen Herndon of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren also survive her: Blair and Keenan Fennimore; John, Jr. and Gregory Hall; Trevor, Chelsea, and Cullen Baron; and Antonia and Alexander Herndon. She has one surviving sister, Helen Davenport of Stormlake, IA and many nieces and nephews. After attending business school in Chillicothe, OH, she was employed by the Fleet Oil Company and during W.W.II held a secretarial position in the Inspector General's Office in Washington, DC. After the war, she accepted a position with Newsome Motor Company, a Kaiser-Frazier automobile agency in Bradenton, FL where she met and married her husband. While he attended the Univ. of Florida, she held the position of secretary to the head of the Department of Architecture and Allied Arts. After his graduation in 1950, they moved to Oak Ridge where he accepted an engineering position with Union Carbide Corp. and they have resided here continuously for 53 years. During the early years, 1950-1974, in Oak Ridge, she concentrated on rearing her family and was active in the Campfire Girls organization and school activities. From 1974 until retirement in 1993, she held the position of business manager at the Emory Valley Center. She was a loving caring wife and mother and her memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of her family and friends. She had many and varied interests that she embraced enthusiastically. She was an avid sports fan especially for the lady VOLS basketball team and the professional women's tennis tournaments. She and her husband faithfully attended UT football games for many years. They were also accomplished ballroom dancers and were members of several local dance clubs over the years. Travel was another special love of hers. She and her husband traveled extensively here and abroad to places of interest and attended his military reunions held throughout the United States. She loved reading and was an avid collector of many different items such as postage stamps, coins, LladrĂ³ ceramics figures, and Dickens Village. The Christmas season each year was a special time in her life. Throughout the year, she carefully selected just the right gift for each family member and friend and personally wrapped each one. She shunned Christmas form letters and composed personal handwritten letters each year to long time friends. A memorial service will be held Friday December 12, 2003 at 2:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge with the Rev. Bob Cantrell officiating. The family will welcome friends in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. LUDWIG, ROBERT L. "BOB" - age 81, of Kingston, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2003. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Bob was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and the University of Wisconsin with degrees in chemical and metallurgical engineering, and was employed at the Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge until his retirement. During his retirement, he spent his time in the service of his church as treasurer for 23 years and enjoyed a variety of hobbies including wildflower gardening and woodworking. He is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Ruth Ann Ludwig; sister, Betty Sjoberg of Texas; brother and sister-in-law Don and Ann Ludwig of Chattanooga, TN; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Vic King of Kingston; and son and daughter-in-law David and Joy Ludwig of Signal Mountain, TN. He leaves grandchildren Charlie King, Jon King, Jennifer Stone and Stephanie Devine. The Memorial Service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church on Thursday, December 11, at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Mark Sherrod officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Memorial Fund at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 203 South Kentucky Street, Kingston, TN 37763. Kyker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements MINCEY, WILLIE "RUTH" - age 95, of Oak Ridge, passed away Monday, December 8, 2003 at Briarcliff Health Care Center. She was born May 14, 1908 in Bristol, Virginia to the late Walter H. and Jo Ann Newman Dayberry. She moved to Knoxville at the age of 2 and moved to Oak Ridge in 1945 and lived there until the time of her death. She was a Packer for East Tennessee Packing Company. She enjoyed various crafts, collecting dolls, sewing, quilting and working in her flower garden. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Jesse L. Trent and Everett W. Mincey; son, Raymond L. Trent; brother, "Boyd" Dayberry; sisters, Edith Lyle and Beverlyn Daniels. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Dolores Tyree Childress and Mike Childress of Salem, VA; son, Jack Trent of Manchester, TN; sister, Margaret Bates of Knoxville; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great- grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral service will be Thursday, December 11, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with interment following at Anderson Memorial Gardens on Highway 61 in Clinton.
