All that my notes say is: It appears that Delilah Melton Pitman may have abandoned the family soon after Dan was born. In military records for Dan (Service #: 3239014) the form lists his foster father as William Langley. Dan's father was Daniel Pittman who farmed along the Coon Hollow Rd. near the Union Grove church in Morgan Co. When the elder Daniel died in September of 1890 (burried in Burrville with his first wife Margaret McCartt Pittman), the family story goes that she started running around. The other children half brothers/sisters of Dan disliked Delilah and had very little to do with her. Many of them moved to Texas in the 1890s. I spoke with Morgan Davidson of Morgan co. b/4 he died and he said Mr. Langley took in Dan but never adopted him. He worked him pretty hard. Dan enlisted in the Army. I'm not sure if he fought overseas but died at Camp Meade, MD in 1918. Are you sure he is buried in the Lancing Cemetery? ==== TNMORGAN Mailing List ==== Morgan County Books: http://www.tngenweb.org/morgan/MorganCountyBooks.html ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237
