Hi Gerry- My line is Mitchell that left Morgan county by the 1840 Census to settle southern Illinois. Just wondering if anyone has checked church records for morgan county? Do they exist? Just a thought. Also are there any wills out there? Just some questions. Mitchells first son was named Francis and his second was Allen. John Webb is listed for all four years<br>and is the only Webb shown. The 1820 census was only a head count. The<br>1830 census indicates that there are now 3 other Webb families living in the<br>county in addition of John Webb, Sr. ! They are Culbirth, between 20 and 30<br>years old, Mitchell between 40 and 50 yrs. old and Francis, between 60 and<br>70 years old. John was now 45 yrs. old. The article goes on to say that<br>John Mitchell and Cutbirth are all of an age group where they would be<br>brothers. Francis appears to be too old for a brother. John's age and<br>place of birth comes from his will, Morgan County Deed Book M. Pages 263-64,<br>dated july 30, 1841. Several children are listed, but the name Cutbirth is<br>not one of them. It's also interesting that Nancy Hall's family goes back<br>to Martin Hall whose mother was a "Webb". I haven't been able to find<br>anything else on Cutbirth either.<br><br>This article was one of the first items which helped me with my line which<br>is also from John and Nancy. My line comes through Willis Webb and Margaret<br>Stewart. When your line goes back that far, you're related to almost half<br>of Morgan County in one way or another.<br><br>If you fi! nd anything else on John's parentage, I would love to know about<br>i t and I will keep you in mind, too.
