Miller, 80, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at The Estates of Oak Ridge. Born Jan. 3, 1923, he was the son of Bertha McMurtery Miller of Philadelphia, Tenn., and Robert Miller of Knoxville. Mr. Miller graduated from Knoxville Business College and worked for Burroughs of Birmingham, Ala., as an accountant. He then served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II. He saw duty in Guadalcanal, the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan. He moved to Oak Ridge in 1946 and according to his family he became one of 170 employees who served with the Atomic Energy Commission during its entire 36-year history from 1947 to 1974. Mr. Miller was deputy director of the AEC contract division upon his retirement. Mr. Miller was a member of Robertsville Baptist Church for 55 years, where he served as a deacon and he taught the junior boys Sunday School class for many years. He was also a member of the Oak Ridge Lions Club. His family said he loved his God, his family and his friends, and that he loved to sing and fish and was known for his sense of humor and absolute integrity. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann Rucker Miller; his daughter, Beverly Miller Meredith and husband, John Budd Meredith Jr., of Roanoke, Va.; a grandson, John Budd Meredith III, of Roanoke; a brother, John Miller and wife, June, of Morristown; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Michael Prince officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on the Oliver Springs Highway. Berdell Tolliver, Fred Kiser, Jay Stephens, Earl Smith, Howard Rosser, Dearl Lincoln, John B. Meredith Jr. and John B. Meredith III will serve as pallbearers. Linda Kay Palmer, 59, of Cedar Lake Retreat, Sugar Grove Valley community, Harriman, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Feb. 10, 1944, in Blount County, she was the daughter of Fred Kenneth and Edith Rule Clabough, both now deceased. She and her husband, Larry Rogers Palmer, were married Oct. 19, 1963, in Oak Ridge. They lived in Oak Ridge for many years and moved to Clinton for a short time before moving to Sugar Grove Valley. In Oak Ridge, the Palmers were members of Glenwood Baptist Church and moved their membership to First Baptist Church in Clinton. After moving to Sugar Grove Valley, the Palmers became members of First Baptist Church and Mrs. Palmer was active in the church food ministry and delivered meals to shut-ins. A hairdresser in Oak Ridge for over 40 years, she retired from Vogue Hair Designs. She began her career at Towne Hair fashions in Jackson Square and later worked at Woodland Beauty Salon. After her retirement, she continued to pick up seniors and take them to the shop to fix their hair. Mrs. Palmer was a member of the Fort Loudon Yacht Club. Her family said she was an avid boater and loved to water-ski. According to her family, she was also very active in the lives of her grandchildren and loved to watch them play ball. In addition to her husband of 40 years, Mrs. Palmer is survived by her son, Gregory Scott Palmer and his wife, Beth; her daughter, Angela Renee Woullard and her husband, Mike, all of Oak Ridge; two brothers, Kenneth Clabough and his wife, Harriett, of Friendsville, and Don Clabough and his wife, Phyllis, of High Point, N.C.; and by her mother-in-law, Maxine Bullard and her husband, Perry Washington Bullard, of Clinton. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jordon Woullard, a sixth-grader at Robertsville Middle School, Haley Woullard, a fourth-grader at Linden Elementary School, Peyton Palmer, a third-grader at Woodland Elementary School, Preston Palmer, in kindergarten at Woodland Elementary School and Parker Palmer. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Roy D. Graves officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Mark Palmer, Rocky Emert, Gary Vanosdale, Darrell Clabough, Mark Clabough and Darrell Weisgarber will serve as pallbearers. Steve Mims and Jim McKay will serve as honorary pallbearers. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. William Marcus "Poppa" Harvey, 26, of Alcoa, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Born March 4, 1977, he was the son of Alice F. Harvey of Alcoa and Tommy A. Robinson of Oak Ridge. According to his family, Mr. Harvey enjoyed the fun things in life and truly loved being with family and friends. His family said he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bertha Mae Harvey and Robert Lee Robinson Sr.; an aunt, Augusta McClendon; and by an uncle, David Robinson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harvey is survived by his grandparents, John Rowland and wife, Lorrine, and Eliza Mae Robinson, all of Oak Ridge; two brothers, Anthony Devon Harvey and wife, Kacy, of Alcoa, and Aurelius Robinson of Atlanta, Ga.; his sister, Wendy Nicole Robinson, of Atlanta; and by his nephew, Anthony Hasaan Harvey, of Alcoa. He is also survived by seven aunts, Margaret A. Goss of Hattisburg, Miss., Linda K. Harvey of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Georgia Shephard, Charlotte Robinson and Nikita Robinson, all of Oak Ridge, Robbie McClain of Knoxville, and Machel Avery and husband, Charles, of Asheville, N.C.; two uncles, the Rev. Raymond Shugars of Booneville, Miss., and Robert Lee Robinson Jr. and wife, Lavern, of Asheville; his cousin, Christoper McClendon and wife, Donna, of Louisville, Tenn.; and by several other extended family members. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Shirley V. Palmer, 83, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge. Born Sept. 25, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of John and Lucille Weber Meyer. She married Curtis Raymond Palmer, now deceased, on Dec. 24, 1942. Mrs. Palmer was a member of United Church, Chapel on the Hill. She was also a Lioness, and a member of the Women's Circle at the church and the bridge club. Her family said she enjoyed crafts, dancing, playing bridge, music, traveling and sewing. She was a registered nurse at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. In addition to her parents and her husband, who died Aug. 30, 2000, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother. Mrs. Palmer is survived by three daughters, Barbie V. Warren of Knoxville, Penelope L.P. "Penny" Cabe and husband, Thomas, of Oak Ridge, and Christie Rae Palmer-Barrow and husband, Steve, of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren, Ce Ce Norris and husband, Mike, Russell Warren and wife, Lori, James Cabe and Dennis Cabe and wife, Brandy; four great-grandchildren, Andy, Tucker, Tyler and Victoria Rose; her nephew, Glen Lloyd and wife, Pam; and by her niece, Lois Keenan. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Boyd Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Dorothy Risley DeCamp, 83, of Oxford, Md., died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at her home. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she was raised in Washington, D.C., where she graduated from Western High School. She had a fine arts degree from Beaver College located outside of Philadelphia. She and her husband of 60 years, Sam, moved to Oxford in 1983 after living on their sailboat in the Bahamas. Previously, they had lived in Oak Ridge for 30 years, where Mrs. DeCamp was a reporter and columnist for many years of Ridgermarole for The Oak Ridger. For 17 years she was the information officer for the Oak Ridge Public Library. According to her family, Mrs. DeCamp was a playwright and her comedies were produced nationwide by amateur theater groups. She won numerous national awards including the Etherege Award for best comedy of the year. Her family said she was an avid reader and loved to travel, particularly to England, Paris and Barbados, where the DeCamps spent 14 winters. In addition to her husband, Mrs. DeCamp is survived by her daughter, Susan Brooke DeCamp Myers, and her son-in-law, Larrry Myers, of Oxford and Washington, D.C.; and by two grandsons, Elliott Myers and Chris Myers, both of Washington, D.C. Daniel Smith, 69, of Clinton, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Smith was a member of the Elks Lodge of Oak Ridge. He was a Baptist. Mr. Smith is survived by three daughters, Dana Welsh and husband, Jerry, Angie Chastain and husband, Bobby, and Tammy Craig, all of Clinton; his wife of 28 years, Mary Helen Smith; three sisters, Patricia Ann Willis of Arizona, and Betty Jo Smith and Evelyn Nelson, both of Knoxville; and by six grandchildren, Kelly Smith, Kasey Smith, Chase Chastain, Bobbie Williams, Danny Williams and Mark Joseph McDevitt II. His family said he will be remembered by many friends. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on the Oliver Springs Highway in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Ora Mae Baker Cornett, 89, of Clinton, formerly of Big Laurel, Ky., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at her home after a long illness. Born Feb. 24, 1914, in Leslie County in Kentucky, she was the daughter of Gilbert Taylor and Polly Adams Baker. She and her husband, Harrison Cornett, were married 71 years ago. According to her family she touched many lives and hearts of many people and anyone that knew her has special memories to cherish. Her family said she will forever be loved and missed. Her family said she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, affectionately known as "Mammie." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Juanita Coots Cornett; two grandchildren, Innise Kay Scearse and David Cornett; three sisters, Della Hendricks, Juda Coots and Elizabeth Cornett; five brothers, Reuben Baker, Erma Baker, Dennis Baker and Willie Baker. Mrs. Cornett is survived by her daughter, Ola Mae Hall and husband, Paulus, of Gilley, Ky.; two sons, Lester Cornett and wife, Peggy, of Danville, Ky., and Dennis Cornett and wife, Peggy, of Clinton; and by 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. The funeral was to be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Tri City Funeral Home in Benham, Ky., with the Rev. Titus Boggs officiating.
