Dear Edna, Just read your latest email and it occurred to me that you might have some ideas of where to steer me next, or perhaps those books you mentioned may have some gems for me. I was extremely fortunate to connect with Morgan T. a few years before he died, and he sent me much of his data. But he didn't hold out much hope for what I need, so it may be silly for me to inquire. My gg grandfather was Ferdinand Heydemann who emigrated on an ill-fated ship in 1847 which almost didn't make it to land. He was one of the earlier workers, storekeepers and landowners of Wartburg and then md John C. White and Ruth Hall White's daughter Ann C White. He was murdered in 1856. Morgan didn't think that there was any record of where he was buried or any marriage record for he and Ann White as 'sherman' and his men had been through there. So, where he might be buried would be my first question? I also cannot find the origins of George D. Bowling (1834) and his brother Thomas B. Bowling, who were probably friends of the Whites or Halls. He later marries Ann and becomes the step-father of her daughters, Ann and Flora and they move to Kansas City, KS. He and Ann were md in Macoupin, Illinois on the way to Kansas. Does anyone connect to these Bowlings? Their mother's name could have been Mary, but that is not verified. They both state that they were born in TN and not KY. Ruth Hall's mother, Barbara, wife of David Hall, was Native American. John C. White's mother was Natichia, also Native American. {I think I have the generations correct} Now that records for Native Americans seem to be coming forth, can you suggest the best way to find which tribes or nations, these two women would have been part of. (Off hand, I could assume Cherokee, but that would be foolish.) Any ideas or suggestions that you might have would be very appreciated. And to all you listers, I have learned so much about Wartburg and TN from all of your sharing. The funny thing is that these are my Mom's lines, Flora was her grandmother, and recently I realized that my Dad's 2nd and 3rd great grandparents were over in Jefferson County, not too far away - William McCulley born 1790, and Tobias Wilhelm (1760?-1814 in AL) and his daughter Aisley Wilhelm. These families emigrated down to Paint Rock, Jackson, AL. I want to thank all of you for the historical information and good advice and ideas that you share. May you all have a safe, peaceful, healthy, and loving Christmastime and be blessed for all of your kindnesses, especially to us Westerners, who have been in Northern Indiana for a 3rd of a Century. Sure would be tempting to come your way for Christmas, if those darling little granddaughters weren't out West. Oh Well - Maybe next Spring or Fall. Thanks again Edna. I had a Cherokee Grandmother Miranda James and I know she was 1/2 Cherokee. Her husband who was Fred Briggs was 1/4 Cherokee. Who had red hair and beautiful blue eyes. She was tall and slender and dark hair and dark eyes. I have found his family but cannot find anyone from the James Side of the family to compare/share notes with. I have no idea where to look for this information on the Indian Tribes. Most here were Cherokee. They gave Tennessee it's name. I will have to look this up for you. If I can, I will.
