Miller, 77, Samuel Perry Byrd, of Oliver Springs, ========================================= >From The Oak Ridger 26 Dec 2003 David E. Miller, 80, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at The Estates of Oak Ridge. Born Jan. 3, 1923, he was the son of Bertha McMurtery Miller of Philadelphia, Tenn., and Robert Miller of Knoxville. Mr. Miller graduated from Knoxville Business College and worked for Burroughs of Birmingham, Ala., as an accountant. He then served in the US Army as a staff sergeant during World War II. He saw duty in Guadalcanal, the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan. He moved to Oak Ridge in 1946 and according to a plaque he received at retirement, he was "one of 170 employees who served USAEC during its entire 36 year history from 1947-1974." Mr. Miller was deputy director of USAEC Contract Division upon his retirement. Mr. Miller was a member of Robertsville Baptist Church for 55 years, where he served as deacon and taught the junior boys Sunday school class for many years. He was also a member of the Oak Ridge Lions Club. According to his family, Mr. Miller loved his God, his family and his friends. His family said he loved to sing and fish and was known for his sense of humor and absolute integrity. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann Rucker Miller; his daughter, Beverly Miller Meredith and husband, John Budd Meredith Jr., of Roanoke, Va.; his grandson, John Budd Meredith III, of Roanoke; his brother, John Miller and wife, June, of Morristown; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Michael Prince officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Berdell Tolliver, Fred Kiser, Jay Stephens, Earl Smith, Howard Rosser, Dearl Lincoln, John B. Meredith Jr. and John B. Meredith III will serve as pallbearers. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Tabitha's Table, c/o Robertsville Baptist Church, 251 Robertsville Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Rebecca Louise Lynch, 76, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge. Born Dec. 12, 1927, in Middlesboro, Ky., she was the daughter of Claude Newton Mathews and Lucy Pearl Kirtley Mathews. Mrs. Lynch was a homemaker and a member of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church. In earlier years, she was an avid bridge player and active in many of the area bridge clubs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Eugene Lynch, in 1998. Mrs. Lynch is survived by her daughter, Linda Carol Lynch Cantrell and husband, Randy, of Oak Ridge; her sister-in-law, Emily Ruth Cassity, of Crestview, Fla.; and by two grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Cantrell, a senior at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, and Jessica Pearl "J.P." Cantrell, a freshman at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Her family said there will be no visitation, in keeping with her wishes. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with the Rev. E.C. Vestal officiating. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Kern Memorial United Methodist Church, 451 E. Tennessee Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Lonnie Williams, 62, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospice in Halls. Mr. Williams was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Alta Mae Carden Williams; a sister, Edna Frederick Floyd; and by a brother, Johnnie C. Williams. Margaret Allien Williams, now deceased, was considered a special friend. Mr. Williams is survived by his son, Lonnie Williams and wife, Jerddine, of Georgia; three grandchildren, Tabitha Williams, Christan Williams and Lillianna Williams; his twin sister, Bonnie West and husband, Billy, of Clinton; a sister, Daisey Mae Sharp and husband, Joe, of Clinton; a brother, Carl Williams and wife, Martha Joe, of Clinton; and by several nieces, nephews and other relatives. The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Farmers Grove Cemetery in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Leon L. Miller, 77, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospice in Halls. Mr. Miller retired from Sprague Electric Co. in Clinton. He was a veteran of World War II and served in U.S. Seebees. His family said his favorite hobby was fishing below Melton Hill Dam with his friends. Mr. Miller was a member of Clinton First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Miller, former Anderson County schools superintendent, and Carrie Carden Miller; a sister, Willie Maude Wolfe; and by five brothers, Waller, Robert, William Jr., Carroll Reece, Ivy Lyn and Harry Miller. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Miller, of Clinton; two daughters, Joy Miller Hollingsworth and husband, Jim, of Knoxville, and Glenda Peters and husband, Randall, of Charlotte, N.C.; his son, Alan R. Miller and fiancée, Renee Manning, both of Knoxville; three grandsons, Brian Hollingsworth, Matt Hollingsworth and Jonathan Peters; a sister, Mary Grace Ellis, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and by several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was to be at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton with the Rev. Earl Wilson officiating. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Clinton Public Library, 118 Hicks St., Clinton, TN 37716. The family was to receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Samuel Perry Byrd, of Oliver Springs, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Roane Medical Center in Harriman.
