    3. While we are 'diggin' in the Webb family, would you all look out for Parthenia Webb, please....she is lost and is my brick wall. Her story goes: Parthenia Webb was born Parthenia Daughtery 2-26-1859. She died 2-14-1932 as Parthenia Daughtery Webb Cromwell in Oakdale. the daughter of Robert Webb, b 1857, died in Andersonville, 1864, (son of Lewis Webb and Ruby McCartt Webb) Parthenia's mother listed on her death cert. as Doughtery. No first name. Probably spelled as it was spoken. Anyhow. Parthenia was born a Doughtery/Daughtery, BUT, her grandparents, Lewis and Ruby McCartt Webb, took custody of her at about age 11 ( 1871) and changed her name to Webb. I found the document showing this info in Robert Webb's pension records. I ordered the complete record and there it was! Even other documents to prove it! I have not been able to locate her in the census of 1860, UNLESS, this has something to do with her. In the 1860 Census: Dist 3 372 GARRETT, Martin, age 28, TN Susan, age 22, wife, KY Ruby, age 2 DOHERTY, JANE, age 20, KY RUBY, age 1, daughter, TN --- Could this possibly be my Parthenia? actually Ruby age 1? Her grandmother was Ruby, so she may have been named after her? The time frame is right. Pathenia born in 1859 and here is Ruby age 1... By 1870 this Martin Garrett is alone. Anyone have any thoughts on this?? Julie

    3. Julie, were the custody papers also in the court house or did you only find them in the pension file? I am wondering if it will do me any good to come down there again and go through court records to try and find Mary Etta Webb/Garrett. What do you think. -----Original Message----- From: Julie Cromwell [mailto:janncromwell@highland.net] Sent: Wednesday, December 17, 2003 6:41 AM To: TNMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNMORGAN] WEBB Family While we are 'diggin' in the Webb family, would you all look out for Parthenia Webb, please....she is lost and is my brick wall. 3. Julie, I noticed that the census record you have gives Susan and Jane as being born in Ky. They must have been sisters. If Robert died during the war, then what happened to her mother? In the 1850 census Martin Garrett is listed as child of John and elizabeth. In the 1870 census, John and Elizabeth have four Webbs listed in the household. There definitely has to be a connection. Do you have a record of Robert's marriage? Could Jane be her mother? Why the last name of Daughtery and not Webb? The Daughtery name doesn't show up very often. This is very interesting. I have a question for you. Is Ruby buried in Elizabeth Cemetery. I have Lewis buried there but haven't been able to find her. Also buried at Elizabeth is a Ruby Webb McCoy born 1855 and Lewis and Ruby's daughter Hannah McCoy. Do you know who this Ruby is? Sorry if I've made it worse. Sometimes answering these questions will point you in the right direction. I'm still enjoying my book. You did a great job on it. Don't you wish we had information like this for the years you are searching in right now. 3. Hi Gerri I have been told that Ruby McCartt is supposedly buried next to Lewis or at least near him. As for a marriage for Robert Webb, haven't found one yet. By the mother being listed as Daughtery, I am assuming there was no marriage. That's what I am wondering....is this Jane really Parthenia's mother? Parthenia could be Ruby Parthenia, or Parthenia Ruby. Just never have found much about her. Some of these papers, actually the application of a pension, state that Parthenia's mother was" a livid woman, roaming from place to place and having more children" or something similar to that. I assume Lewis and Ruby McCartt took her so they could collect the pension of Robert Webb, which they did get. Now, who is this Jane ?? I really kick my self now....years ago, when I was first married, I was shown a picture of Parthenia and her husband, James Monroe Cromwell. Back then, I thought, O, a real old couple. I didn't have the least bit of interest in genealogy back then. Since then the house the picture hung in has burned and with it the picture. And the folks who lived in the house, her son and his wife, are gone also. Don't know who this Ruby Webb McCoy is right off. Probably got something on her in my books. Guess I will have to 'dig in' after the holidays and get to searching again.. Been hectic here lately... Glad to hear you are enjoying the book. I intended to do another from 1940 on, but since I am not working in Wartburg now, it's harder for me to get to the library.. Maybe after the first of the year I can think about it again... Thanks for your thoughts on this. Julie Dewey Leach wrote: >Julie, > > I noticed that the census record you have gives Susan and Jane as being >born in Ky. They must have been sisters.
