McKeethan, 92, of Oak Ridge, Sybil Braden, 87, of Oliver Springs, Mabel Wells Black, 92, of Pocahontas, Ark. ========================================= Roy V. McKeethan, 92, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Sept. 25, 1911, in Kings Mountain, Ky., he was the son of Samuel and Lola Floyd McKeethan. Mr. McKeethan was employed by Western Electric Co. in Chicago before owing his own radio-electronic business in Kentucky. He also worked at the Waynesburg Lumber Co., as an appliance sales and serviceman and a bookkeeper. Before coming to Oak Ridge in 1943, he was an electronics instructor for the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Lexington, Ky. He originally went to work at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant, and after the war he was transferred to Oak Ridge National Laboratory as an instrument technician, where he worked until his retirement in 1976. According to his family, Mr. McKeethan was an outstanding athlete in high school, playing baseball and basketball. He also played semi-professional baseball. His family said his love of sports continued throughout his life. He was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats and was very interested in and followed the Oak Ridge Wildcats closely. He was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel and was fondly known to his friends as "Mac." He was a member of United Church, Chapel on the Hill. His family said he was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and delighted in spending as much time as possible with them. His family said he also enjoyed working in his yard and garden at his home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Sanders McKeethan, on Feb. 16, 1980, and by a granddaughter, Rebecca Wagner, in 1969. Mr. McKeethan is survived by his son, Sam McKeethan and wife, Mary Alma, of Oak Ridge; two daughters, Vicki Bueno and husband, Ivan, of Tampa, Fla., and Sandra Wagner and husband, David, of Evansville, Ind.; six grandchildren, Kelly McKeethan and wife, Beckie, of Chattanooga, Kevin McKeethan, a student at Maryville College, Beth Scherrer and husband, Steve, of Lafayette, Ind., and Sally Miles and husband, Drew, Jennifer Wagner and Krista Wagner, all of Evansville, Ind.; and by four great-grandchildren, Drew Miles of Evansville, Ind., Molly Scherrer of Lafayette, and Sarah McKeethan and Josh McKeethan, both of Chattanooga. His family said he will be remembered by many friends. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Jack Sills officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the mortuary. Sybil Braden, 87, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Morgan County Life Care Center in Wartburg. Born July 29, 1916, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Silas McCoy and Rosie Massengale McCoy. Mrs. Braden was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a homemaker. She attended Union Valley Baptist Church and was a member of Frost Bottom Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Braden; her daughter, Barbara Lloyd; and by two sons, Edgar Braden and Wayne Braden. Mrs. Braden is survived by two sons, David Braden and wife, Betty, and Roger Braden and wife, Tammy, all of Oliver Springs; six grandchildren, Diane, Debra, Ralph, Ashley, Greg and Teresa; and by eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Wayne Morgan and the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Frost Bottom Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mabel Wells Black, 92, of Pocahontas, Ark., died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Born March 4, 1911, in Randolph County in Arkansas, she was the daughter of Lively Dalton Wells and Thomas H. Wells. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold M. Black. Mrs. Black is survived by her son, Charles Thomas Black of Hixson; two daughters, Mary Smith of Morristown and Betty Black of Powell; four grandchildren, Justin Black of Hixson, Charles Waller of Memphis, and Steven Smith and Sandy Babb, both of Knoxville; and by two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas with the Rev. Glenn Petus officiating. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery in Pocahontas.
