From The Knoxville News Sentinel 22 Apr 2004 GILBERT, EDWARD LYNN - age 71, of Lake City, MARTIN, WILLIAM JASPER - 87, of Knoxville, formerly of Oak Ridge OSBORNE, HANSFORD HAROLD age 81, SHANNON, JESSIE - age 99, Wartburg \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ GILBERT, EDWARD LYNN - age 71, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, TN. He was born September 10, 1932 in Sevier County, Tennessee to the late White and Arletta Benson Gilbert. He was a member of the Valley Grove Baptist Church in Seymour, TN. Edward loved flea markets, auctions and spending time with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by: his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Survivors: wife, M. Carolyn Gilbert, Lake City, TN; sons, Lynn Gilbert (Donna), Seymour, TN, Lynn Nelson, Lake City, TN, Jay Nelson, Asheville, NC; daughters, Jody Stone (Scott), Knoxville, TN, Debbie Bridges (J.R.), Lake City, TN: sisters, Mary Manis, Seymour, TN, Kathryn Trentham (Melvin), Maryville, TN, Polly Trentham (Ira), Maryville, TN: brother-in-laws, Jim Bowman (Judy), Marion, NC, C.W. Trent, Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Sabrina, Leslie Ann, Amy, Mikey, Chelsey and Cris: several nieces, nephews and many friends. MARTIN, WILLIAM JASPER - 87, of Knoxville, formerly of Oak Ridge and Spring City, TN. died Tuesday April 20, 2004 at Shannondale Health Care Center. He was a Member of Second Presbyterian Church. Mr. Martin was an Chemical Engineer and retired from Union Carbide after over 25 years of service. He was a life member of the Oak Ridge Elks Club. Survivors: wife of 62 years, Mary Lena Hays Martin of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, William Frederick "Fred" and Karen Martin; grandson, Jake Martin all of Tallahassee, Florida; sister, Edna Hutton of Greensboro, NC. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel in charge. OSBORNE, HANSFORD HAROLD age 81, passed away at Methodist Medical Center-Oak Ridge, on Monday, April 19, 2004 due to complications of congestive heart failure. He was born January 22, 1923 in Jonesville, Virginia, to Eula and Ora Osborne. A Veteran of the US Army in WW II, he served in the 616th Field Artillery Battalion of the 10th Mountain Division from 1940 until honorable discharge at the rank of 1st Sergeant at war end in 1945. While in training at Camp Hale, Colorado, he met Emma Redmond, of Leadville. They were later married in May 1944. He retired in 1985, after 40 years employment with Union Carbide Corporation in the Finance & Materials Department, at Paducah, Ky., and, since 1970, as Chief Purchasing Agent at Oak Ridge, TN. Preceded in death by: mother and father, Eula and Ora; infant sons Ronald Dean and Hansford Harold, Jr.; sister, Betty Sue Stanley of Salem, IN; and wife of 53 years, Emma Jean. Survived by: daughter and son-in-law, Donna Jean and David Livingston, grand- daughter, Heather Livingston, all of Grand Junction, Colorado; son, Steven Osborne, of Oak Ridge, TN; sister and brother-in-law Rita and Larry Servoss, of Greeneville, TN; sister Nathetta Pendergraft, of Pennington Gap, VA; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Renee Mullins of Oak Ridge, TN; brother Donald Parsons of Johnson City, TN; numerous nieces, cousins, etc. Mr. Osborne was a participant in the Vanderbilt University Ultimate Gift Program; as such, his body has been donated to the Medical School in Nashville for teaching and research study. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the AGAPE HELP CENTER, c/o First Baptist Church, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN. 37830. Friends will be received on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 7:00pm. She was a member of Star of Hope Chapel on Flat Fork Rd. in Wartburg. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Lige Shannon; two sons, Charles (at birth) and Clarence Shannon; her parents, John P. and Delia Cooper; sisters, Zona Hall and Mary Ford; brothers, Ralph, Reuben, Walter, and Sherman; son-in-law, John M. Armes. She is survived by: two sons, Bill and wife, Nancy Shannon of Wartburg, Tom and wife, Pat Shannon of Wartburg; five daughters, Juanita and husband, Foye Armes of Wartburg, Lolita and husband, Bob Daugherty of Rockwood, Minnie Ann Armes of Wartburg, Sue and husband, Hank Mahaney of Virginia, Peggy and husband, Joe Budnik of Wisconsin; twenty-one grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 22, 2004 from 6-8 pm at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg. Funeral services will begin at 8 pm with Darrell Daugherty and Rev. David Barkley officiating.
