Zang, 80, of Oak Ridge, \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Tony Ray Bowling, 55, of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Bowling was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward C. and Mary King Bowling; a sister, Kay Bowling Condra; and by his brother, Charles E. Bowling. Mr. Bowling is survived by his wife, Linda G. Bowling; two sons, Greg Bowling and wife, Ginger, of Mossy Grove, and Scott Bowling and wife, Cindy, of Auburn, Ala.; a sister, Pam Robbins and husband, Ray, of Kingston; five grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsey, Andy, Bryson and Abigail; and by his mother-in-law, Merle Gunter, of Mossy Grove. The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with Tom Mooty officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Hershel "Papaw" Keathley, 81, of Coalfield, died Monday, April 12, 2004. According to his family, he loved God, his family, his church, his country and his community. He was a member of Mount Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the United Mine Workers of America and the Democratic Party. He served his country in World War II. He served his community by sharing his wisdom and his poetry with the students of Coalfield School during Heritage Week. His family said he was loved and will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Patsy Jane Keathley; 16 siblings; and by a son, Richard Keathley. Mr. Keathley is survived by his children, Stanley Keathley and wife, Pam, of Oak Ridge, Tony Keathley of Kingston, Johnny Keathley and wife, Bonnie, of Oliver Springs, Jerry Keathley and wife, Kathy, of Claxton, Lola Murray and husband, Gary, Wartburg, and Pat Conlon and husband, Frank, Jennie Cotton, and Sheila Walls and husband, Kevin, all of Coalfield; and by 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. His family said he was lovingly known by all who knew him as "Papaw." The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004, at Schubert Funeral Home with the Rev. Jean Richardson and the Rev. Mark Hester officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, at Estes Cemetery in Coalfield. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Carter Othyn Parks, 75, of Clinton, died April 12, 2004. Born Dec. 16, l928, in a 19th century log cabin in Briceville, he was the son of Cecil Clifford Parks and Arpie Sisson Parks. Mr. Parks was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and has been a resident of Anderson County most of his life, except for nine years of military service. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Korean War combat veteran. He met his wife, Bobbie, while stationed in North Carolina, and they recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Parks retired from Tennessee Valley Authority in 1983, where he was a materials engineer during the construction of several power plants in East Tennessee. A driver for Fox Toyota for the past 20 years, his family said he loved to travel by car and enjoyed hiking and walking. According to his family, his favorite hobby was to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway of North Carolina, where he knew every trail and mile marker by heart. He was the father of five children and "Granddad" to 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as an uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews in Tennessee, North Carolina and Ohio. His family said he will be sorely missed by friends and family, including extended family in Morgan County and his wife's family in North Carolina. His family said he lived each day to the fullest and enjoyed NASCAR, bluegrass music, fishing with his brothers and grandsons, growing tomatoes and corn each summer, and cooking Sunday dinner for his family every week. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester Parks, Albert Joseph Parks and Cecil Parks Jr.; a sister, Opal Braden; his son-in-law, Michael Ray Bunch; and by other family and friends. Mr. Parks is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Dean "Bobbie" Chrismon Parks; his son, Danny Cecil Parks, of Lake City; four daughters, Seaira Stephenson and husband, Brad, of Oak Ridge, Angie Bunch of Lake City, Regina McCallister and husband, Dennis, of Strawberry Plains, and LaVerne Doucet and husband, Bert, of Gueydan, La.; his brother, Lyndel Parks, of Memphis; and by two sisters, Emily Duncan of Clinton and Betty Lynn Vowell and husband, Quentin, of Jacksboro. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Herbert Chrismon and wife, Margaret, of North Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Lutitia Hill, Gladys Bland and Luvina White and husband, Allen, all of North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Preston Parks, Barbara Julian and husband, Brad, DeAnna Bunch, Dustin Bunch, Jesse McCallister, Landon McCallister and Derek Lovely, all of Tennessee, and Dean Fontenot, C.J. Fontenot and Robert Fontenot, all of Louisiana; two great-grandchildren, William Julian and Breanna Julian, of Clinton; and by his special niece, Renee Burchfield and husband, Dennis, of Clinton. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2004, in the chapel of Jones Mortuary in Clinton with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating. Burial will follow at Clinch River Baptist Church cemetery in Lake City. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the mortuary. Neil F. Wender, 88, of Roane County, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at his home. Mr. Wender was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. In his youth, Mr. Wender served in the Maine National Guard and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Dempster Brother's in Knoxville. He was a former member of the Lake City American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Wender; a daughter, Phyllis Wender; and by a brother, William Hood Wender Jr. Mr. Wender is survived by his children, Jeanette Burke and husband, Leonard, of Ohio, Theda White and husband, Paris, of Powell and Pamela Marlene Presley of Roane County; his beloved friend and caretaker, Cindy Moore, of Roane County; 11 grandchildren, Theresa, Allen, Neil, Beth, Sandy, Denise, Dennis, Darryl, Doug, Edye and Eddie; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; his dear friend, Delilah; his brother, Raymond Wender, of Florida; his sister, Laurette Vaughan of Georgia; and by several nieces, nephews and recent companion, Naomi Grigsby. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2004, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Knoxville with the Rev. John Dowling officiating. Family and friends will gather for a graveside service at 1 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville. Military rites will be conducted by East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.
