Mary Hazel Walters Margaret Clay Vester, 95, of Powell, \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Carolyn Lindsay Clayton, 61, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge. Born April 15, 1942, in Caryville, her family said she was a devoted wife and mother. According to her family, Mrs. Clayton was a woman of many talents, a gifted pianist and singer. Her family said she was an outstanding basketball player at Lake City High School. She had a very successful career as a secretary, according to her family. She owned and operated four businesses - at the present time she was president and chief executive officer of CRD Inc.; Claytons Business Assistance, one of the first temporary services in Oak Ridge; Claytons Couturiere, where she designed and made original creations; and Baldys Barbecue Restaurant. Mrs. Clayton won the Miss Anderson County beauty pageant in 1960, placed third in the Miss Tennessee Pageant in 1960 and first runner-up in the Miss Oak Ridge beauty contest in 1961, winning the talent and swimsuit competition in this contest. She was preceded in death by her parents William T. "Dink" and Thelma Jones Lindsay, and by three brothers, Jimmie Thurman, Jerry Lynn and David Orn Lindsay. Mrs. Clayton is survived by her husband, Frank D. Clayton; her daughter, Catrina Clayton Lozano; her son, Frank L. "Kip" Clayton and wife, Suzie; three grandchildren, Caitlin Lauren Clayton, Roman Delano Lozano and David Omar Lozano; and by two brothers, Paris "Mack" Lindsay and wife, JoAnne, and Richard William Lindsay and wife, Judy. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Byrge and the Rev. Hollis Whitaker. Burial will be private for family only. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Louise Bresee Cowger of Oak Ridge died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004. Born Sarah Louise Bresee on March 20, 1905, on the family farm near Etna, Ill., she was the daughter of Byrd Elma and Bertha Bresee. Mrs. Cowger attended the University of Illinois and graduated in 1928. On Aug. 4, 1928, she married Lawrence J. Shappert. During World War II, Mrs. Cowger managed the Pi Beta Phi central office, which was then located in Decatur. In 1944, she took a job with the Ordnance Works in Decatur that was to build tanks in support of the war effort. Following the war, Mrs. Cowger sold real estate. Mr. Shappert died in 1969. In 1979, she married Charles Carr Cowger. The couple wintered in Lake Placid, Fla., and lived in Belvidere, Ill., until 1984 when they moved to Champaign, Ill. Mr. Cowger died in March 2001. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John Bresee, Paul Bresee and Howard Bresee, and by a sister, Ruth Bressee Ashbrook. Mrs. Cowger is survived by her son, Lawrence B. Shappert, of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren and their spouses, Susan and Tony Saliba of Beavercreek, Ohio, Rebecca and David Luther of Bristol, Stephen and Rhonda Shappert of Commercial Point, Ohio, and Christopher and Kristen Shappert of Suwanee, Ga.; and by nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at noon Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church of Champaign with the Rev. Eric Snyder officiating. Morgan Funeral Home in Savoy, Ill., is in charge of arrangements. Mary E. "Libby" Quattrochi, 49, of Huntsville, Ala., died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at a local hospital. Mrs. Quattrochi was a native of Oak Ridge, and a resident of Madison County in Alabama for the past 12 years. A member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, she was active with the Girl Scouts of North Alabama and various schools in the area. She was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Mrs. Quattrochi is survived by her husband, Dale Anthony Quattrochi; her son, Michael Quattrochi, of Huntsville; her daughter, Laura Quattrochi, of Huntsville; a brother, Allan Gregory Anderson of Seymour; and by her parents, Allan Glenn and Magnolia E. Anderson of Oak Ridge. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Huntsville. Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville is in charge of arrangements. Mary Hazel Walters died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at her home in Knoxville. She was the wife of Thomas Kelly Walters Jr., now deceased. She and her family resided 10 years in Oak Ridge and later in Syracuse, N.Y., and Tulsa, Okla., before moving to Knoxville. According to her family, she had a talent for music and in the 1940s and early 1950s, she helped the late Rev. Dr. K.B. Combs, a Baptist moderator, as he established three to four churches in Oak Ridge, Calvary Baptist Church and Central Baptist Church being two of them. Mrs. Walters was associate teacher and pianist in many churches until lupus took control. According to her family, she retired because she said, "a church needs someone they can depend on." She was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church and her family said she was a "bonafide" member of St. Matthew's Church in Tulsa, an honor bestowed by the church. Her family said she had a "magna cum laude" degree in motherhood bestowed by her children. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Anne Witt, and by an infant son, John Quenton Walters. Mrs. Walters is survived by a son, Richard Walters and wife, Daphne, of Marietta, Ga.; two daughters, Margaret Kelly Norman and Jennifer Coburn and husband, Gary, all of Powell; four grandchildren, Brian Coburn, Gregory Norman, Natalie Clabough and Erin Elizabeth Walters; and by one great-grandchild, Wesley Clabough. The funeral was to be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel in Knoxville. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
