>From The Oak Ridger 9 Feb 2004 Frances Alper Sturm, of Knoxville, Tressie Stooksbury Wright, 83, of Clinton, Mary Arter, 88, of Oak Ridge, Bolling Katherine Edwards Bolling, 92, of Oak Ridge, Audra Eileen Chandler Euvine Justice, 56, of Oliver Springs, Jewell Thomas, 81, of Oak Ridge, \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Frances Alper Sturm, of Knoxville, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at home after a battle with cancer. Born July 2, 1930, in Chattanooga, she was the daughter of Abraham Joseph Alper and Lena Zion Alper, both now deceased. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in social work. She was a juvenile probation officer in Chattanooga until she married Melvin Sturm, of Jellico, on March 8, 1954. Late in 1954, the newlyweds moved to Oak Ridge, where they opened Sturm's Youth World and started a family. During the next 43 years, Mrs. Sturm was committed to her synagogue and many community volunteer activities, according to her family. The couple moved to west Knoxville in 1991, but stayed involved with Oak Ridge friends and activities. In addition to her many community involvements, her family said she loved to play tennis and entertain friends and family in her home. Her son, Bradley Sturm, also died earlier. In addition to her husband of 50 years, Mrs. Sturm is survived by two daughters, Diane Glass of Evergreen, Colo., and Michelle Sturm of Denver, Colo.; her daughter-in-law, Melissa Hasden Sturm, of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Leah Glass and Derek Glass and Britt Sturm and Ethan Sturm, of Knoxville; her brother, Dr. Benjamin Alper of Nashville; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her grace and goodness are cherished by many loved ones, according to her family. The funeral was Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. Burial followed at Beth EL Cemetery in Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Gary Sturm, Russell Sturm, Richard Sturm, David Balloff, Rick Seline, Gary Glass, Zane Bell, Marvin Abraham and Art Dworkin served as pallbearers. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Jewish Congregation of Oak Ridge, the Bradley Sturm Memorial Fund at the Heska Amuna Synagogue of Knoxville, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Mourners kaddish will be Sunday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mel and Fran Sturm in Knoxville. Tressie Stooksbury Wright, 83, of Clinton, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at her residence. Born May 27, 1920, in Loyston, she was the daughter of Paris Conrad and Rossie Stooksbury. She graduated from Robertsville High School in 1941, and was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Claxton. She married Arthur W. Wright on Jan. 30, 1942, in Chatsworth, Ga. The couple just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Mrs. Wright was a homemaker. Her family said she loved the Lord, her family and her church family. According to her family, she enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all, her family said. Two brothers, Goodlow Stooksbury and his wife, Ruth, and Homer Stooksbury; her sister, Mossie Davis and husband, Elmer; a grandchild, Adam Wright; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edd and Etta Wright; a brother-in-law Claude Wright and his wife, Lorene; and a sister-in-law, Edna Bearden and husband, Roy, also died earlier. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wright is survived by three sons, Fred Wright and wife, Joyce, Carl Wright and wife, Paula, and Willard Wright and wife, Pat, all of Clinton; her daughter, Wilma Brooks and husband, Larry, of Clinton; her brother, Milas B. Stooksbury and wife, Lucille, of Knoxville; a sister-in-law, Almeda Stooksbury of Manchester; and by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral was Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Glen Gamble and the Rev. Steve Merritt officiating. Burial followed at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Grandchildren served as pallbearers. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Zion Baptist Church cemetery fund.
