From The Oak Ridger 19 May 2004 Shawn Alan Bogardus, Sarah Joyce Connelly, 86, of Oak Ridge, James William Douglas, 85, of Clinton, Barbara Ann Everett, 60, of Oak Ridge, Ruth McLemore Hardin Gillock, 98, Jack C. Irwin, 76, of Clinton, Shawn Alan Bogardus, 27, son of Oak Ridge native Raymond Bogardus and grandson of Muriel Bogardus of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at his home in Gaithersburg, Md. He was a skilled computer systems technician for several Washington, D.C., area high technology firms. In addition to his father and grandmother, Mr. Bogardus is survived by his mother, Diane Michaels of Gaithersburg; his grandparents, Bill and Doris Messer; his brother, Tim Bogardus; his uncle, Larry Messer; his aunt, Amy Vest, and cousins, Ben, Lauren and Jonathan; his aunt and uncle, Sarah and Tim, and cousins, Molly and Ryan. The family requests any memorials be in the form of contributions to a charity of the donor's choice. A memorial service was to be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg. Sarah Joyce Connelly, 86, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at her home. Born Jan. 14, 1918, in Bon Aqua, she was the daughter of Walter Perkins Anderson and Flora Bledsoe Anderson. Prior to owning and operating Joyce's Beauty Shop for many years, Mrs. Connelly worked at Elm Grove Beauty Shop. According to her family, she and her husband were two of the first members at Highland View Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jones Connelly, on May 6, 1992. Mrs. Connelly is survived by two sons, Edwin Connelly and wife, Carol, and Ronald Paul Connelly and wife, Ava, all of Chattanooga; two daughters, Martha Van Hoven and husband, David, of Nashville and C. Jeanette Connelly and husband, Gary Stevens, of Norris; and by eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary with Curtis McClain officiating. A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 21, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary, James William Douglas, 85, of Clinton, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at his home. Born Feb. 27, 1919, in Elk Valley, he was the son of Millard and Nancy Douglas. Mr. Douglas was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Clinton Church of Christ and owner of Douglas Coal Sales Inc. in Clinton. Mr. Douglas is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vera White Douglas; his son, James Lee Douglas and wife, Jacque, of Oak Ridge; his daughter, Judith Hair and husband, Eddie, of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren, Christopher Douglas of Bozeman, Mont., Cristin Hair-Minge and husband, Joey, of Knoxville, Samantha Hair and Preston Douglas Hair, both of Oak Ridge; his great-grandson, Henry Douglas Minge, of Knoxville; two sisters, Ruby Dyke of Oak Ridge and Shirley Sue Davenport of Jellico, Ky.; and by several nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Garry Jones, pastor of Clinton Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2004, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Barbara Ann Everett, 60, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at her home. Born Jan. 1, 1944, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Charlie and Ruthie Bunch Seiber, both now deceased. Her family said she was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Everett was employed as a manager at Dairy Queen in Oak Ridge for 20 years. After the closing of Dairy Queen, she worked for eight years at Krystal in Oak Ridge and had been employed by Wal-Mart in Oak Ridge for the past six years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max R. Everett; three brothers, Bernard Seiber, Austin Seiber and Leonard Seiber; and by a brother-in-law, Arlie Bray. Mrs. Everett is survived by her daughter, Debbie Bratcher and husband, Mark, of Oliver Springs; two grandsons, Mark Allen Bratcher and wife, Crystal, of Lenoir City, and Adam Ryan Bratcher and girlfriend, Mindy Campbell; five brothers, Rayburn Seiber and wife, Frankie, of Devonia, Howard Lonnie Seiber and wife, Kathy, of Coalfield, Roger Seiber and wife, Mary Ann, and Charles Seiber and wife, Lacresha, all of Harriman, and Donnie Seiber and wife, Beverly, of Wartburg; five sisters, Bernice Lowe and husband, James, and Beatrice Bray, all of Kingston, Nancy Brock and husband, James, of Harriman, Sue Ferguson and husband, Rollo, of Greensboro, N.C., and Peggy Melhorn and husband, David "Henry," of Friendsville; a special niece, Pat Brock, of Clinton; and by many special friends and extended family members. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Joe Copeland officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Ruth McLemore Hardin Gillock, 98, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Hardin County Nursing Home, after 10 years of declining health. Born Dec. 11, 1905, in Hardin County, she was the daughter of Gipson Hardin and Della Allison Hardin. Mrs. Gillock was a descendant of Col. Joseph Hardin, one of Hardin County's founders and a Revolutionary War veteran. She lived in Savannah until 1943 and moved to Oak Ridge with her husband, Edgar Cherry Gillock, until his death in 1987. In 1996, she moved back to Savannah. Mrs. Gillock worked for Tennessee Eastman Corp. at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant. During the World War II years she worked for the Oak Ridge school system for several years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge and attended First Methodist Church in Savannah. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, the Business and Professional Women's Club, and the Order of the Amaranth. Her family said she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading and cooking. She was famous for her bread making and coconut cake. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Hardin, Jack Hardin and Tom Hardin; two sisters, Edith Shull and Mildred Bowling; a half sister, Sally Brandon; and by three half brothers, Charlie Hardin, Will Hardin and Martin Hardin. Mrs. Gillock is survived by her son, the Rev. Edgar Hardin Gillock and wife, Harriet, of Savannah and Bolivar; her daughter, Mary Julia Gillock Hoppe and husband, Bill, of Oak Ridge; and by a sister, Maude Cragg, of Savannah. She is also survived by six granddaughters, Carol Hoppe Jeffery and husband, Ron, of Knoxville, Lisa Ann Hoppe of St. Petersburg, Fla., Debra Gillock Casey and husband, John, of Nashville, Denise Gillock Fletcer and husband, Terry, of Naples, Fla., and Laura Gillock O'Mell and husband, Herbie, and Lori Gillock Cordelli and husband, Pete, all of Memphis; four grandsons, Gregory C. Hoppe, Lee H. Gillock and wife, Karen, and Eddie Gillock and wife, Tamar, all of Nashville, and Robert Gillock Gibbs and wife, Barbara, of Claremore, Okla.; 15 great-grandchildren, Tyler Jeffery, Kileen Hoppe, Amber Gillock, Cortney Gillock, Bill Gourley, Brandon O'Mell, Michael O'Mell, Kelly Cordelli, Katie Cordelli, Lydia Gillock, Clarice Gillock, Jason Alexander, Sara Gillock, Bryan Gillock and John Gillock; one great-great-grandchild; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral was Monday, May 17, 2004, at First United Methodist Church in Savannah with the Rev. Will Wells and the Rev. Ed Gillock officiating. Burial was at Savannah Cemetery. Irwin, 76, of Clinton, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born July 20, 1927, he was the son of Claude and Stella Irwin. Mr. Irwin was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. He was 32nd Degree Scottish Rights in Knoxville. He belongs to Andersonville Masonic Lodge and was a retired boilermaker, Local 453. His family said he was a well-known mechanic and home builder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susie Graves; a grandson, Cullen Irwin; a daughter-in-law, Pam Irwin; a brother, Paul Irwin; and by four sisters, Juanita Thompson, Jeanette Irwin Clanten, June Brock Ridings and Josephine Yarber. Mr. Irwin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise Irwin; two sons, Chris Irwin and wife, Darlene, and Jeff Irwin, all of Clinton; two daughters, Jill Longmire and husband, Robert, of Andersonville and Tina Simpson of Norris; two sons-in-law, Gary Graves and Eugene Simpson; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and by two special friends, Cas McCoy and Leo Warwick and several other friends. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Jordan, Dr. Hall, Dr. Wells and Dr. Lawson and nurses, Linda, Carolyn and Amy. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Wayne Phillips and the Rev. Mike Foust officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at Norris Memorial Gardens. Adam Irwin, Gary Graves, Robert Longmire, Jeremy Horton, Tim Lynch and Eugene Simpson will serve as pallbearers.
