Born June 21, 1922, he was the son of Dewey Daugherty Sr. and Josephine Daughterty Worley. His family said he was an avid church member and enjoyed fishing and gardening. According to his family, he enjoyed working with children as he was a retired Head Start volunteer worker. He was a member of Victory Bible Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a lifelong member of Disabled American Veterans, Chapter No. 26, and the Odd Fellows Lodge, Chapter No. 54. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Daugherty Jr.; a daughter, Brenda Greene; and by one grandson and one great-grandson. Mr. Daugherty is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ola Mae Daugherty; his son, Warren Jack Daugherty, of Wartburg; two daughters, Sharon Daugherty of Wartburg and Gail Gill and husband, Darrell, of Lafayette, Ind.; three stepdaughters, Carolyn Elmore and husband, Brad, of Wayne, Mich., Janice Lyles and husband, Rick, of Coalfield, and Loraine Brown and husband, Garry, of Oliver Springs; and by 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Mildred Trail, of Harriman; a half brother, Charles Purkey and wife, Violet, of Wartburg; two half sisters, Arvena McGhee of Sevierville and Martha Ramey and husband, Gene, of Morristown; and by several nieces and nephews. Jean and the late Cecil Parris, Frank and Peggy Sexton, Joe Armes, Joe Gouge, several church friends, and a special friend and caretaker, Cyndi Wicks, are considered special friends. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Victory Bible Baptist Church in the Stephens community with the Rev. Frank Sexton and the Rev. Ellis Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Wartburg. Garry Parris, Larry Parris, Dewayne "Roho" Sexton, Joe Gouge, Layton Duncan, Raymond Duncan, Lester Morgan and Joe Morgan will serve as pallbearers. James Brown Jr. and Justin Tyler Brown will serve as honorary pallbearers.
