Julie ------------------ Hazel Corene Griffith Brewster, 74, of Oneida, passed away January 15, 2004, at Huntsville Manor Nursing Home. Born in the Brimstone community, January 1, 1930, she was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Edna Neely Griffith; her husband, James Donald Brewster; two sisters, Juanita Griffith and Shirley Griffith; four brothers: Wilton, Clayton, Von, and Floyd 'Buddy' Griffith; father- and mother-in-law, Curtis and Georgia Webb; sister-in-law, Norma Smithers; and brother-in-law, Doyle Webb. She was a member of the Oneida Church of God. She is survived by two daughters: Linda Stanley and husband, Archie, of Oneida; and Carol Churchfield and husband, Donald, of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; three sons: James Terry Brewster and wife, Barbara, of Chatsworth, Ga.; Stanley Brewster and wife, Geneda, and David Brewster and wife, Ann, all of Oneida; 14 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, four sisters: Helen McGill of Robbins, June Talley of Helenwood, Jean Newport of Brewstertown, and Mary Estes of Winfield; one brother, Bob Griffith of the Mountain View community; one sister-in-law, Gale LeWallen of Ohio; five brothers-in-law: Dale Webb of Glenmary, Ray Webb and Darrel Webb, both of Alabama, Bill Webb of Fla.; and David Webb of Georgia; special friend, Beverly; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted January 17, in the chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home of Oneida with Interment following in Black Creek Crossroads Cemetery in Robbins.
Julie: The individual in the obit below actually was a Coalfield citizen and was likely born in Morgan County. Could you post his obit on the Morgan Co. pages? He was my neighbor for many years. Thanks Judy Solis BYRD, SAMUEL PERRY - age 82 of Oliver Springs, passed away December 26, 2003 at the Roane Medical Center at Harriman. Mr. Byrd was a World War II Veteran, he entered the Navy in 1941. He served in the South Pacific where he was rated as Pharmacist Mate First Class. He was honorable discharged in September of 1945. He worked for the United States Postal Service where he retired. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Dortha Owens Byrd of Oliver Springs; one daughter, Barbara (Barbi) Cannon of Coalfield; one daughter in law, Nancy Byrd of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Cindy Denise Byrd of Knoxville, Perry Scott Cannon of Coalfield, Carey Beth Byrd of Oak Ridge; two great grandsons, Samuel Scott Cannon of Oliver Springs and Jayden Kane Byrd of Oak Ridge. Preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Dessie Jacks Byrd; sons, Charles Perry Byrd, George Edger Byrd, James William (Buster) Byrd. Pallbearers for Mr. Byrd's service will be, Gary Lively, David Owens, Lance Owens, Kelby Rice, Andy Fadnek, Don Owens and Tom Poole. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Tucker, Roy Tucker, J.W. Cross and John Cross. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the Oliver Springs Mortuary. Funeral service will be at 8 p.m. Saturday December 27, 2003 in the chapel of the Oliver Springs Mortuary with the Rev. Charlie Marlow officiating Interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday December 28, 2003 at the Davis Cemetery in Coalfield. Oliver Springs Mortuary will be handling the arrangements.
