    2. >From the Knoxville News Sentinel 15 Jan 2004 HANNAH, CHARLES NORMAN - 53 of Knoxville, HARRIS, KATHERINE LUCILLE - age 90, formerly of Clinton, Tennessee, PHILLIPS, JERRY J. - 68, PATTERSON, JOHN "J.C." - age 90 of Lake City, SOWDER, GLADYS COKER - age 95 of Knoxville, \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ HANNAH, CHARLES NORMAN - 53 of Knoxville, died on January 13, 2004 at his home. Born on June 21, 1950 in Oak Ridge to parents Howard Henry and Lucille Hicks Hannah. Before his medical retirement, Mr. Hannah worked with Reality Management in Oak Ridge, had worked at Shoney's in Knoxville, and had been a free lance contractor for the Sexton Company in Knoxville. Preceded in death by his brother, Martin Hannah and by his sisters, Betty Leach and Margie Weathersby. Survivors include, daughters, Amanda Hannah Chambers and husband, Scott of Clinton, Chrissy Hannah and husband, Tony Gibson of Oak Ridge, Telitha Denise Smith; sisters, Nancy Hannah, Atlanta, GA, Carolyn Foust and husband, Jimmy of Columbia, SC; brothers, Howard Hannah and wife, Sandra of Oak Ridge, Jerry Hannah and wife, Jeannie of Knoxville; grandchildren, Austin Chambers and Zachary Kidwell; many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary on Friday, January 16, 2004, 8 PM with Rev. Rick Miller officiating. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, 11 AM at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 - 8 PM at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge. HARRIS, KATHERINE LUCILLE - age 90, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Clinton, Tennessee, passed away Monday, January 12, 2004 in Richmond, Va. Survivors: daughter, Pat & husband, David "Pete" Miller of Richmond, Va.; son, Marvon "Pete" Harris of Clinton, Tn.; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Howard & Janette Golden, both of Corryton, Tn.; brothers, Reed & wife, Jerry McKelvey, of Corryton, Tn., Charles & wife, Frankie McKelvey, of Nashville, Tn.; several nieces & nephews; special friend,Carol Ellis of Clinton, Tn. PHILLIPS, JERRY J. - 68, passed away Jan. 14 after a hard fight against cancer. He was W. P. Toms Professor of Law at U.T., having taught there since 1967. He graduated from Norris High School, Yale University, Cambridge University (England), and Yale Law School. Survivors: wife, Anne, and daughter, Dorothy, of Knoxville; son, Sherman, of Atlanta; mother, Blanche Wade Phillips living near Norris; and brother, Bill, of Greenville, SC. A memorial service will be held at St. Johns Cathedral on Saturday at 4 p.m., followed by a reception in the Great Hall there. PATTERSON, JOHN "J.C." - age 90 of Lake City, went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2004 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was a member of the Clinch River Baptist Church where he was active and especially enjoyed "Monday School." J.C. was born November 28, 1913 in Anderson County, TN to the late William Calvin and Minnie Lucinda Nelson Patterson. He spent his entire life on the family farm, which he loved. He was a successful husband, father and businessman and was loved by all who met him. J.C. enjoyed life and had a zeal for all it offered. He enjoyed politics and always tried to make life better for Anderson County Citizens. SOWDER, GLADYS COKER - age 95 of Knoxville, died 4:34 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice after an extended illness. Born October 14, 1908, in Coalfield, TN, to Albert and Montana Butler Coker, she was baptized into Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at an early age. Her family moved to Knoxville in 1926, and she became a telephone operator. In 1933 she was the second employee hired by TVA's Communication Division, retiring in 1970 as supervisor of the telephone exchange. For many years, Gladys was a faithful member of Arlington Baptist Church. She will be lovingly remembered for the thoughtful, caring things she did for family, friends, and neighbors. She was a beautiful, loving person of great integrity and enjoyed life to the fullest. Preceded in death by husband, Clarence Sowder; parents; siblings, Blanche, Ralph, Elmer and Carl. Survivors: sister and brother-in-law, Dyllis and Melbourne Highland; sisters, Nita Webb, Elizabeth Hammer and Jean Rouse, all of Knoxville; brother, Paul Coker of St. Augustine, FL; brother and sister-in-law, David and Peggy Coker of Decatur, GA; sister-in-law, Katy Coker of Knoxville; maternal uncle, Vaughn Butler of Harriman; maternal aunts, Mattie Luhr of Lexington, KY, Ruth Freels of Roswell, GA; many nieces, nephews and friends.
