Bright, 88, of Oak Ridge, Helen Marie Fultz, 81, of Oak Ridge, Sybol Dalphine Hopper, 59, of Clinton, Marie Muller, 90, of Oak Ridge, Richard Clifton "Wick" Rather, 82, of Oliver Springs, \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Ruby K. Bright, 88, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. According to her family, she loved her family and her bull terrier, Happy. Her family said she loved fishing, camping, bowling, looking at the moon and trips to Cades Cove and Norris Dam with her friend, Levi Bailey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bright; a grandson, Jason Harold Bright; and a brother and by sister, Melvin Kirk and Millie Bond. Mrs. Bright is survived by two sons, Kirk Bright and wife, Ellen, of Spring City, and Mark Bright and wife, Margie, of Clinton; three grandchildren, Kelly Amanns, Kris Bright and wife, Liping, and Amy Talley and husband, Adam; and by several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Harrison Kirk and wife, Nancy, of Maryville, and Cloyd Kirk and wife, Helen, of Athens; two sisters, Audrey Heckert and Dottie Sutton, both of Maryville; several nieces and nephews; and by a special friend, Levi Bailey. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Roy Graves officiating. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to a charity of the donor's choice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Weatherford Mortuary. Helen Marie Fultz, 81, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Briarcliff Health Care Center. Born March 28, 1922, in Honaker, Va., she was the daughter of Joseph and Dora Thompson Peak. Mrs. Fultz worked as an accountant with J.C. Penney Co. Inc. for 15 years. After she retired, she opened Nana's Day Care and worked for another 15 years. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. Her family said she loved children and in earlier years was an avid square dancer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Fultz, on May 6, 1986. Mrs. Fultz is survived by her son, Richard Fultz and wife, Myra, of Oak Ridge; her daughter, Sandra K. Nelson and husband, James, of Clinton; four grandchildren, Heather Cupp and husband, Alec, and Amanda Bailey and husband, Kier, all of Oak Ridge, Christy Lamon and husband, Mike, and Shelly Swafford and husband, Greg, all of Knoxville; and by seven great-grandchildren. The funeral was Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Bob Gray officiating. A graveside service was to be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton. Sybol Dalphine Hopper, 59, of Clinton, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at her home. Born Nov. 11, 1944, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the Rev. Fred Bean, now deceased, and Marie Huckaby Bean. Her niece, Mary McCulley, also died earlier. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Hopper is survived by her husband of 39 years, Ronald Hopper; three sons, Ronald Hopper and wife, Nichole, of Clinton, Terry Hopper and wife, Jeri, of Oak Ridge, and Timmy Hopper and wife, Donna, of Lake City; and by six grandchildren, Patience Collins, Summer Hopper, Destiny Hopper, Christian Hopper, Hannah Hopper and Madison Hopper. He is also survived by five brothers, Rueben Bean and wife, Peggy, the Rev. Freddie Bean and wife, Melissa, and Charles Bean, all of Clinton, Jimmy Bean and wife, Mildred, of Oliver Springs, and Ray Bean and wife, Bonnie, of Frost Bottom; six sisters, Helen McGill and husband, Doc, and Mary Rose and Pat Ford, all of Clinton, Sandra Jobe and husband, Ron, Beatrice Miller and husband, Lester, and Anna Jo Bridges and husband, the Rev. Eddie Bridges, all of Lake City, and Joyce Hutchison and husband, Kenny, of Andersonville; a sister-in-law, Brenda Brown and husband, Tom, of Medora, Ind.; and by several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The funeral was to be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev. Joe Cagley and the Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Burial was to follow at Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church cemetery. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements. Marie Muller, 90, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at The Estates of Oak Ridge, of complications of congestive heart failure. Born June 6, 1913, in Holle, Germany, she was the daughter of Hermine and Wilhelm Vasterling. In her late-teen years, she worked as a homemaker for a prominent Lutheran pastor's family in Hildesheim. In 1936, she married Henry Muller of Ringstedt. They moved to Weissenfels in 1938, where she worked for a dairy company. They fled East Germany with their two daughters in 1946 to Henry Muller's boyhood home in the West. In 1950, she immigrated with her family to Brooklyn, N.Y. It was there she learned the confectionery business at the store of her sister-in-law and spouse. Her family said the focal point of her life was her family. The Mullers purchased their first business in New York, N.Y., in 1954. They then moved to Long Island, N.Y., where they bought a second ice cream parlor/luncheonette. Their store was recognized for its excellent chocolate-Easter confections and lunch trade. Mrs. Muller retired with her husband from business in 1974 and moved to Whiting, N.J. She was an avid vegetable gardener who shared her produce with the entire neighborhood. She enjoyed making ceramic crafts which still decorate her families' homes. Mrs. Muller and her spouse moved to Oak Ridge on March 15, 2000, to The Estates of Oak Ridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years in September 2002; a brother, Ewald Vasterling; and by a sister, Herta Klussmann. Mrs. Muller is survived by her daughters, Sigrid Ludemann and husband, Carl, of Oak Ridge, and RoseMarie Johnson of Whiting, N.J.; four grandchildren, Donald Ludemann and wife, Debra, of St. Paul, Minn., Carol Ludemann Barcus and husband, John, of Huron, Ohio, Eva Johnson Oliver and husband, Thomas, of Chester, N.H., and David Johnson of Austin, Texas; and by four great-grandchildren, Colin Barcus of Notre Dame, Ind., Matthew Barcus and Geoffrey Barcus, both of Huron, and Heather Oliver of Chester; and by two sisters, Elfriede Domhöver and Brunhilde Wege, both of Germany. A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stephen Damos officiating. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Memorial Garden of Grace Lutheran Church, 131 W. Gettysburg Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830, or to Christ Lutheran Church, 40 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ 08759-3025. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Richard Clifton "Wick" Rather, 82, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at his home. Born May 19, 1921, in the Wheat community of Roane County, he was the son of Jackson K. Rather and Elsie Hembree Rather. Mr. Rather was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in World War II. He was a retired teamster, truck driver, retiring in 1984 after working for 30 years. He attended New Fairview Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. According to his family, Mr. Rather raised parrots. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Freels and husband, Ben; a brother, Floyd Rather; and by two brothers-in-law, Alvin Stout and Vann Hatfield. Mr. Rather is survived by his wife of 56 years, June Rutherford Rather; his daughter, Judy Buchanan and husband, Jack, of Karns; two sons, James Rather of Newport Beach, Calif., and Rick Rather and wife, Debbie, of Palm Bay, Fla.; and by three grandchildren, Keith Rather and wife, Carrie, of Palm Bay, and Christopher Buchanan and Brandon Buchanan, both of Kingsport. He is also survived by two brothers, Don Rather and wife, Anna, and Jack Rather and wife, Geraldine, all of Oliver Springs; and by four sisters, Lillie Hatfield of Baltimore, Md., Ruth Stout of Kingsport, Irene Jones and husband, Roger, of Coalfield, and Shirley Goodman and husband, Fred, of Karns. The funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Tommy Hensley and the Rev. Scott Queener officiating.
