    2. >From The Oak Ridger 29 Jan 2004 Kylie Grace Ford, Buna Evelyn Coffey Hawkins, 92, of Oak Ridge, Charles Ned Hester Jr., 89, of Oak Ridge, Edwin Robert Inman, 72, of Oak Ridge, James Hastings O'Brien, 88, of Maryville, formerly of Oak Ridge, The Rev. Verlin Phillips, 72, of Briceville, \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Kylie Grace Ford, infant daughter of Michael and Charlene Ford, of Oliver Springs, died Oct. 23, 2003, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her twin brother, Hunter Riley Ford, of Oliver Springs. She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Owen and Jan Long of Oliver Springs; her paternal grandparents, Robert Ford of Claxton and Wilma Ford of Clinton; and by her paternal great-grandparents, Millard and Dora Adkins of Clinton. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Rick Boring officiating. Buna Evelyn Coffey Hawkins, 92, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Born Aug. 1, 1911, she was the last surviving child of E.W. and Dora Henson Coffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Hawkins; two sisters, Lelia Coffey and Ola Ramsey, both of Bulls Gap; and by six brothers, Larkin Coffey, Cloyd Coffey and Keller Coffey, all of Bulls Gap, Floyd Coffey and Curtis Coffey, both of Alcoa, and Julian Coffey of Knoxville. They are awaiting her arrival to complete their family in heaven once more, family members said. Her family said she enjoyed gardening, baking, crossword puzzles, Nascar races and especially spending time with her grandchildren. According to her family, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother to the children she leaves behind. Her spirit will always remain in their hearts, her family said. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by four children, Joann Day and husband, Wade, of Lenoir City, Edward Hawkins and wife, Charlotte, of Whitesburg, Rose Marie Ledford and husband, Jim, of Oliver Springs, and Glenda Reynolds and husband, Jim, of Karns, formerly of Oak Ridge. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Chris Day and wife, Sally, Tim Ledford and wife, Joann, Shellie Campbell Fellers and husband, Mike, and Mike Campbell, all of Oak Ridge, Jared Ledford and wife, Stephanie, and Benji Ledford and wife, Ashley, all of Oliver Springs, Lynne Hibberts and husband, Gary, of Lincolnton, N.C., Denise Cooper and husband, Terry, of Crossville, Ala., and Cheryl Stockton and husband, Joey, Cathy Lovelace and Cindy Deaton, all of Lenoir City; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Girtha Coffey, wife of the late Julian Coffey, of Knoxville; and by several nieces and nephews. Carl Montooth, of Philadelphia, Tenn., is considered a very special friend. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Charles Ned Hester Jr., 89, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Jan. 21, 1915, in Cranberry, N.C., he was the son of Charles N. and Odie Jackson Hester. He retired from Tennessee Eastman, Holston Ordinance where he was a chemical operator. Mr. Hester was a charter member of West Village Christian Church. Mr. Hester is survived by his wife of almost 71 years, Frances Helen Bennett Hester; four daughters, Peggy Jansen, and Sharon Trahan and Don Smith, all of Knoxville, Nancy McKinney and husband, Gilbert, of Oak Ridge and Judy Phillips and husband, Frank, of Lilburn, Ga.; his son, Chuck Hester and wife, Judy, of Cottondale, Fla.; and by his sister, Helen Lewis of Johnson City. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, Patrick Byrd of Oak Ridge, Teresa Hatcher and husband, Charlie, Tammy Stooksbury and husband, Ricky, Kathy Thomas and husband, Terry, Scott McKinney and wife, Debbie, Lori Kresky and husband, Chris, Jamie Moore and husband, Brian, and Jenny Trahan, all of Knoxville, Karen Walker and husband, Paul, of Prattville, Ala., Deanna Vance and husband, John, of Summerville, S.C., Steve McKinney and wife, Kathy, and Charles Hester, all of Murfreesboro, Lisa Dickey and husband, Scott, of Atlanta, Ga., Tina Edwards of Harriman, Earl Petree of Pasadena, Texas, Jeffrey Petree and wife, Sheryl, of Powell, Stephanie Cusatis and husband, Albert, of Claxton, Christy Evans and husband, Vic, of Columbus, Ga., and Jason Hester of Cottondale, Fla.; and by 41 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Noel Kirk officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Edwin Robert Inman, 72, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004. Born July 3, 1931, in High Point, N.C., he was the son of Shade H. and Ella Bogus Inman. Mr. Inman was a Baptist. He was a maintenance engineer at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, and a member of the Elk's Lodge and the American Legion. His family said he enjoyed dancing, fishing and bowling. He was a corporal with the U.S. Marine Corps Infantry. He served in Korea engaging in the capture and securing of Seoul, Korea, and participated in the Wonsan-Hungnam-Chosin campaign from Oct. 26 to Dec. 5, 1950. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Jean Greason Inman, and by a sister, Christine Gregory. Mr. Inman is survived by his son, Kurt Inman and wife, Martha, of Braselton, Ga.; two daughters, Sherry Smiddy and husband, Lewis, of Yorktown, Va., and Melanie Duncan and husband, Rex, of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Ira and Kaitlin, both of Georgia, Amber, Tara and Jared, all of Virginia, and Ashleigh and Todd Tinker, both of Clinton; and by a great-granddaughter, Maia Grace. An Elk's service will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with full military rites. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. James Hastings O'Brien, 88, of Maryville, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center in Maryville. Born Nov. 11, 1915, in Marblehead, Mass., he was the first child and only son of James F. and Hazel P. O'Brien. Educated at the University of Michigan, he was a graduate of the class of 1937. He received his master's degree in chemistry in 1947. Governed by a lifelong sense of honor, duty and discipline, he enlisted in the armed forces, according to his family. He served with the 652nd Bomb Squadron of the United States 8th Air Force in Alconbury, England during World War II. He retired from the Air Force Reserves in 1968 with the final rank of major. On Sept. 7, 1946, he married the "love of his life," Meribah Leach O'Brien, now deceased, in Salem, Mass. The O'Briens moved to Oak Ridge in 1947. Mr. O'Brien was a chemist at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant. He retired in 1979 after 32 years. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Sidmore and Betty Markham. Mr. O'Brien is survived by two daughters, Ann Carter of Plano, Texas, and Melissa O'Brien of Maryville; three grandchildren, Stephanie Pense of Jacksonville, Texas, and Gregory Tallent and Sarah Tallent, both of Maryville. A graveside service will be at Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Blount Memorial Foundation, 330 S. Washington St., Maryville, TN 37804. Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, in Salem, Mass., is in charge of arrangements. McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville is in charge of local arrangements. The Rev. Verlin Phillips, 72, of Briceville, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Jan. 20, 1932, he was the son of Richard and Rosa Phillips. He was member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church since Aug. 31, 1947. He was pastor of Community Baptist Church. His family said he loved to coon hunt and fish, but most of all he loved to serve the Lord and preach the gospel, which he had done since July 1957. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis Phillips and Johah Phillips; three sisters, Vergie, Evy and Nettie; and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clyde and Cora Lee Vandergriff. Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean Vandergriff Phillips, who his family said he loved very much; three daughters, Nettie Braden and husband, Richard, Wanda Carroll and husband, Johnny, and Betty Phillips Seiber, all of Briceville; and by three sons, Ray Phillips and wife, Mary, Roger Phillips and wife, Ruby, and Tommy Phillips and wife, LeaAnn, all of Briceville. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Deena Coffman, Joshua Seiber, Jonathan Carroll, Betha Carroll, Scott Phillips, Amanda Phillips, Rachael Phillips, Verlin Lee Phillips, Jessica Phillips, Emily Phillips, Kimberly Phillips, Colton Phillips, Reid Phillips and Ashlynn Phillips, all of Briceville; a sister, Etta Patterson, of Harriman; two brothers, Virgil Phillips and wife, Alice, of Briceville, and Walter Phillips and wife, Norma, of Lake City; and by several nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Laurel Grove Baptist Church in Briceville with the Rev. Rick Howard and the Rev. Steve Seiber officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
