Born Nov. 29, 1926, in Birmingham, she was the daughter of Grady Lee and Delma Hubbert Lipscomb. She was a homemaker and member of Glenwood Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 756. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Anthony Slaughter, on May 11, 1991. Mrs. Slaughter is survived by her daughter, Jodie Nazaroff and husband, Michael, of Clovis, Calif., currently living in Kenya, Africa; her sister, Mozette Laney, of Birmingham; her grandson, Christopher Michael Nazaroff, of Burbank, Calif.; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at noon Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with Jodie Slaughter Nazaroff officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Webster, 80, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Born Sept. 27, 1923, in Morgan County, she was the daughter of Paris G. and Myrtle Hill Webster. Ms. Webster was a librarian at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and retired in 1988. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where her family said she was very active. She attended the University of Tennessee. Her family said she enjoyed traveling, various sports, sewing and reading. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren R. Webster and Roy Eugene Webster, and by a sister, Dorothy Webster Muller. Ms. Webster is survived by two sisters, Patricia Cunningham and husband, Edward, of Mexia, Texas, and Ann Charamella and husband, Leigh, of East Lansing, Mich.; four brothers, James G. Webster, William F. Webster and wife, Barbara, and Ronald A. Webster and wife, Diane, all of Knoxville, and John K. Webster of Hamilton, Ohio; and by several nieces, nephews, family and friends. Bertha Marie Sampsel, 75, of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. Born Aug. 2, 1928, in Harlan, Ky., she was the daughter of Isham and Minnie Metcalf Noe. She and her family moved to Tennessee in 1931. She has been a resident of the area since that time. She was homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Sampsel; a sister, Ellen Butler; and by six brothers, E. C. Noe, Robert Noe, Berrie Noe, Dewey Noe, Oscar Noe and Bill Noe. Mrs. Sampsel is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Childs, of Clinton; three sons, Stanley L. Sampsel and wife, Susan, of Oak Ridge, Gary E. Sampsel and wife, Judith, and Dale H. Sampsel, all of Oliver Springs; seven grandchildren, Tammy, Sherrie, Richard, Suzanne, Jamie, Kevin and Emily; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Dora Gouge, of Oliver Springs; two brothers, David Noe and wife, Ann, of Oliver Springs, and Jim Noe and wife, Cora, of Crossville; and by several nieces and nephews. Hegenderfer Nicol, 84, of Marysville, Ohio, died Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at Heartland of Marysville. Born July 26, 1919, in Darby Township, Ohio, she was the daughter of Eric and Eva Ruhl Hegenderfer. A homemaker, she retired from the Scott Co. in 1982 as an office and accounting clerk. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church, where she participated in the morning Bible study and was a member of Women of the ELCA. A former, longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she was involved in various womens' activities and helped with food preparation for the church school. >From 1938 to 1947, she worked at Nestles as a payroll clerk. According to her family, she was known for her good cooking, especially Christmas cookies, rhubarb pie, potato salad and deviled eggs. Her family said she loved to read and travel. She was baptized Aug. 10, 1919, at St. John's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Kuechle and was confirmed Palm Sunday, April 9, 1933, at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. E.J. Goedeking. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert J. Nicol, in 1959; her first husband, Richard Elsbree, who was killed in action in Okinawa, in 1945; an infant son, Herbert; four sisters, Florence Geer, Tessa Parr, Elsie Van Hoose and Irene Hegenderfer; and by two brothers, Floyd Hegenderfer and Gilbert Hegenderfer. Mrs. Nicol is survived by a daughter, Dorothy L. Nicol, of Marysville; two sons, Michael Nicol and wife, Diane, of Oak Ridge, and Daniel Nicol and wife, Diane, of Louisville, Ohio; four granddaughters, Monica Nicol, Mandi Nicol, Danielle Nicol and Carly Nicol; a brother-in-law, Kermit Nicol, of Marysville; and by several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was a truck driver employed by Jeff Cobb Trucking. He previously worked at Clyde Wilson Trucking. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Coleman, and by his parents, William and Pearl Evans Coleman.
