The Oak Ridger 27 Sep 2007 Rollie H. Green, age 80, a resident of Oliver Springs, Vera Louise Watkins, 71, of Harriman, Rollie H. Green, age 80, a resident of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at Sun Bridge Health Care Center in LaFollette. Mr. Green was born Nov. 12, 1926, in Kingston, on the Kingston Riverboat Ferry that his parents operated. Mr. Green was a U.S. Navy veteran who served his country during the Korean conflict. After returning from the military, he moved to Ohio where he was president of the Teamsters Local Union in Elyria, Ohio, retiring in 1982 and moving to the Frost Bottom community in Oliver Springs. Mr. Green was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Faye Brown Green; by a son, Edward "Eddie" Wayne Green; by his parents, Reece and Ann Brooker Green; and by several brothers and sisters. He is survived by daughter, Karen A. Collins and husband, Dorr "Bill" W. Collins, of Oliver Springs; grandchildren, Scott Green and wife, Lisa, of Oliver Springs, Matthew Green and wife, LeeAnn, of Oliver Springs, Jonathan Green of Oliver Springs, Jason Collins of Florida, Chad Collins of Virginia, and Lucas H. Collins of Oliver Springs; four great-grandchildren; brother, Bruce Green and wife, Rose, of Kingston. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends. Graveside services and burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at Anderson Memorial Gardens with Pastor Garvan Walls officiating. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Vera Louise Watkins, daughter of the late Pearl and Hubert Horn, 71, of Harriman, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, surrounded by her family at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Feb. 12, 1936, at the Homesteads at Crossville, Mrs. Watkins spent most of her life in East Tennessee. Her joy in life came from her family and her faith in the Lord. She will be remembered for the wonderful quilts she made, which are scattered all over the world. Her cooking, baking, and candy-making will be missed by all who knew her, but mostly she will be remembered for her kindness and generosity of spirit. Mrs. Watkins is survived by her husband of 52 years, Sidney Watkins; their children, Marilyn Sue Norris and her husband, Tim, of Albuquerque, N.M., Nancy Reed and her husband, Mike, of Harriman, Charles and his wife, Sheri, of Asheville, N.C., and Darrel and his wife, Stephanie, of Harriman; and by her grandchildren, Derek Reed and his wife, Jennifer, Corey Reed, Jared Watkins, Bailey and Cooper Watkins; and a great-grandson, Brandon Reed. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Bergeson and her husband, Eddie, of Ft. Pierre, S.D.; and nieces, Brenda Greseth and her husband, Darin, and Connie Gilbert and her husband, Dustin; and nine great nieces and nephews. Receiving of friends will be from 6 until 8:45 p.m. and a service will follow on Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs, with a private burial at the Hester Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her name be made to the Blair Volunteer Fire Department, 1911 Old Harriman Highway, Oliver Springs, TN 37840.
