For the last five years she has resided with and was cared for by her granddaughter, Cindy and husband Jay and her great-grandchildren, whom she adored. WALKER, EVERETT C. - of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday evening, October 2, 2007, at the age of 88 at Methodist Medical Center. Everett was born in Blairville, Georgia, to parents Katherine and Garfield Walker. He and his brothers and sisters were raised in Murphy, N.C. He came to Oak Ridge in 1 945 after serving for four years in the U.S. Army overseas during World War II. His military service included tours of duty in Africa and in Europe. He met his wife, Ethel Gladys Walker (Hill), of 61 years on a blind date after coming to Oak Ridge as part of the war effort. E.C. worked at the Y-12 Plant for 36 years as a Rigger and an Iron Worker. Everett remained in good physical health until a serious fall two weeks ago. He was a long time member of Glenwood Baptist Church. He leaves behind friends and family members including: his wife, Gladys; daughter, Patty and her husband Robert Baird; his grandson, Patrick, who is a freshman at Babson College near Boston, MA; and his special niece Be! nnie and husband Roy Phillips of Murphy, NC.
