    3. NICKLEY, MRS. JEAN SUMMERS - of Wartburg formerly of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Saturday morning October 6, 2007 at her home. Jean battled with cancer for many years and passed away with her friends and family at her side. She was born in Crab Orchard, Tennessee to Fred and Lillian Summers and was a graduate of Oakdale High School. She worked at Harriman Café, which was owned by her parents, while attending high school. She later moved to Dayton, Ohio and spent forty years in the hotel industry. Jean married William Nickley of Dayton, Ohio and enjoyed a very active and social lifestyle. They were members of the Miami Valley Country Club where they enjoyed golfing, traveling, dancing and entertaining. Bill passed away in 1984 and Jean moved back to Wartburg. She felt that people came into her life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. She never forgot her lifelong friends; Jo Moore Phillips, Barbara Oakley Hayes, Maxine Wilson and Sheila Bingham Clark. During her illness, Shirley Ryan, Jill Byrd and Lucy Freytag spent many hours comforting Jean and became special friends. She had a very special relationship with her nephew Phil Davis, who was there day and night for her during her illness and cared for all of her needs. Jean is preceded in death by parents; Fred and Lillian Summers, sister; Margaret John Summers Roberts and husband; William Nickley. She is survived by daughter; Vickie Foster and husband Joe of Dayton, Ohio; son; William Thurman Jr. and wife Cindy of Florida; grandchildren; Beau Thurman, Dan Thurman and Amantha Lynn; brother; Gorgon Summers and wife Mildred of Crossville, Tennessee; sister; Mildred Davis and husband Sam of Wartburg and many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday October 7, 2007 from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Graveside services will be in Trotwood, Ohio at Cedar Hill Cemetery beside her loving husband William Nickley. T. Medical of Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Lester Nixon. He is also survived by grandparents: Mark and Robbie Nixon of Rockwood, TN, and Paul and Lisa Shipe of Oak Ridge, TN. Aunts: Jessica Nixon and Leona Nixon of Johnson City, TN, and Emma Shipe of Oak Ridge, TN.The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 10 to 11 A.M. at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Deer Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents: Carl and Mary McCowan; sister: Glenda McWhorter; brother: Donald McCowan; and two loving daughters: Shannon Carmella and Jennifer Loraine McCowan. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Bonnie (Armes) McCowan; daughter, Julie and husband, John Ruff of Arizona; sister, Carolyn and husband, Jay Bailey of Texas; brothers: Bernie McCowan and wife, Ruth of Missouri, and Charles and wife, Frances of Arizona; brother-in-law: Randall Armes; and special sisters-in-law, who loved him very much: June Kaczynski of Ten Mile, Charlotte Armes of Wartburg, and Linda and Jimmie Armes of Petros.
