Doris was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She married S.R. Dickey, who was killed in World War II one week prior to the birth of their son, Steward Dickey. Many years later, she remarried and had a daughter, Tina Clabo, unfortunately, Doris's second husband died as well. No matter what, Doris was faced with, she rose to face it. Doris worked hard all her life to support and raise her two children in an era when most women stayed at home. Doris was a loving and giving person. She will truly be missed but never forgotten. For 50 years, he was a Mason, being named the second oldest Past Master in 2004, and a member of both the American Legion, and the Order of the Eastern Star, for which he was twice a Past Patron. Before retiring for a brief time, Gordon relocated to Clearwater, FL and became the City of Belleair Beach Building Inspector. JAMES EDWARD WILKES JR. - age 73, of Knoxville passed away on Wednesday, October 17 after a long battle with cancer. He graduated from Central High School in 1952 and from the University of Tennessee Memphis College of Pharmacy in 1956. He married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn Daniels Gillenwaters in 1956. He owned and operated Gillenwaters Drug Company in Karns for more than 31 years before his retirement. Jim's love of his business and his customers led him to make many middle-of-the-night runs to the drugstore to help a patient in need. His delivery service provided not only needed medications, but a friendly encouraging smile as well. Antique cars were his passion. He loved nothing better than to examine and restore them. Jim attended countless antique car meets and won numerous awards for his automobiles. He had served in a variety of offices of the East Tennessee Region Antique Automobile Club of America and the Smoky Mountain Model A Club. He was! a Senior Master Judge and had judged automobiles at 241 national meets - one of a handful of people to reach that milestone. He also served on the National Awards Committee for the AACA. Jim served as a Commissioner of the West Knox Utility District for many years, serving as Treasurer during most of his tenure. He was an active member of the Karns Lions Club where he served in many different offices and was a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award recipient. He was a loyal and involved member of Beaver Ridge United Methodist Church. He served on many boards and committees during his years there and taught Sunday school to children, youth and adults. She graduated from Powell High School in 1934 and married her high school sweetheart, Charles Scarbro, Jr. in 1937. They were married for 59 years. She joined First Baptist Church of Powell in 1940 and was an active and devoted member.
