Born August 6, 1925, at home in Raines County, TX, she soon became surrogate mother to her brothers and sisters in a farming family of nine living children. After high school she went to California and helped the war effort by recycling whatever could be salvaged from old airplanes. Soon after returning to Dallas, TX, she had a blind date with a handsome, dark haired drummer in a band-Mel Golson. They married and she loved him beyond his death thirty-three years later. She devoted her life to her husband and rearing her girls. She enjoyed sewing clothing for her family until arthritis in her hands made it too painful. She was an excellent country cook, loved to work crossword puzzles in ink, had a passion for reading, and read & sent E-mails almost daily. An avid Christian and member of Calvary! Baptist Church of Lenoir City, she loved her church and worked briefly in the church office a few years after the death of her husband. She was an enthusiastic member of the choir until arthritis prevented her standing for long lengths of time. She attended The Golden-Agers monthly luncheon, the Fellowship Sunday School Class, and WMU as her health permitted. She assisted in coordinating meals for bereaved families in her church until as recently as September 20th. She was independent, driving herself and friends to town for shopping. She held much sway in the lives of her children, encouraging them to be their best. She is preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Melvin H. She is survived by: sons, Jack A. & wife Brenda Holt of Powell, Robert L. & wife Margaret (Sissy) Holt of Clinton; grandchildren, Sandy & husband Dr. Bob Moye, Donna & husband Brian Ault, Rev. David & wife Tina Holt, Doug & wife Ruthie Holt; 9 great-grandchildren, Taylor Ault, Jackson, Jordan, Jefferson, & Olivia Holt, Erin & Nathan Moye, and Christopher & Matthew Kacprow! ski. He was of the Baptist faith and a graduate of Lenoir City High School. Jeff was employed with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in Vonore. He was an avid motorcycle rider and was a member of HOG (Harley Owners Group). Preceded in death by: parents, Willie Paul Jenkins and Nora Jenkins; brother, Ronnie Lynn Jenkins.
