AWBREY, LOUISE STODDARD - 91, a resident of the Atria's Life Guidance program, died Saturday, May 26, 2007 in Knoxville. She was an accomplished artist and designer in gardening, sewing, and creating a home for her family. Born in Brooksville, Alabama, on July 7, 1915, she was the middle child of 10 children born to Charles Benjamin and Elizabeth Alldredge Stoddard. Formerly a resident of Bennettsville, South Carolina, she was the widow of Robert Benjamin Awbrey. She is survived by daughter, MaryElizabeth SAGA and her partner, John Yates of Knoxville; daughter Susan Awbrey Hunter and son-in-law Robert Hunter of Greensboro and Morehead City, North Carolina; grandson Dee Campbell Breeden, Jr., of Columbia, South Carolina; grandson Alan Steele and his wife Laurie Steele of Wilmington, North Carolina, and grandson in Greensboro, North Carolina, Christopher Awbrey Steele and his wife Kim Steele and their son Tristan Awbrey Steele; Louise's one year old great-grandson. She is also survived by a sister, Lois Lyon, 99, of Arab, Alabama; sister-in-law Glanton Awbrey Briggs, 90, of Manassas, Virginia; and 11 nieces and nephews, including Sally Briggs Spaulding of Knoxville. Louise lived at the Atria for three years, and her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff there for their consistent loving kindness and dedicated aid and comfort for her. LEADBETTER, CEDRIC (RICK) COURTNEY - age 88 of Knoxville, went to be with his Heavenly Father at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Shannondale Health Care Center on Middlebrook Pike in Knoxville. Born June 23, 1918 in New York City, Rick is the son of the late Earl Courtney and Dorothy (Dora) Loretta Ulrich Leadbetter. He is preceded in death by: his wife, Mildred Louise Russell Leadbetter. Rick graduated from Erasmus High School in New York City, served briefly in the New York City Police Department then joined the Air Force where he was stationed in Smyrna, Tennessee. Subsequently, Rick joined the New York City Fire Department although he and Mildred resided in Paramus and Wychoff, New Jersey. While in New Jersey, Rick and Mildred were members of Hawthorne Gospel Church where they served the Lord faithfully and had many dear friends. Following Rick's retirement from the Fire Department, he and Mildred moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1971. In September 2004 they moved to Knoxville, and Rick attended and enjoyed worship and new friends at Central Baptist Church, Bearden. A sports enthusiast, Rick was an avid fan of the Tennessee Vols. Never at a loss for a smile or kind word, Rick was thoroughly devoted to and loved his wife of 58 years, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved his many friends from Central Baptist Bearden, Shannondale and West Knoxville neighborhood where he resided until last June.
