    2. ATKINS, ONIE MAE - went to be with the Lord on August 8, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. She was born on March 3, 1936 in Bean Station. She has been a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church for 23 years. She is preceded in death by a son, Lonnie Atkins and her mother Lassie Phillips. She is survived by her husband Robert Atkins; sister Linda Holloway. Born in Clearwater on October 25, 1915, she was one of the oldest living descendants of the pioneer settler families of Clearwater. Her survivors include Lynn Drew Bartlett of Calif., Barry and Dennis Bartlett of Knoxville, and Lucy Bartlett of FL; four grandchildren, Dennis Bartlett, Michelle B. Collins, Alyson B. Morgan of Tenn. and Elizabeth B. Gooding of NC; six great grandchildren, Garrett, Cassie, Anna Claire, Drew, Benjamin and Miles. Graveside services were at Clearwater Cemetery on August 8 where she is buried alongside seven generations of her family. CAMPBELL, MYRTLE MAE - 83, a resident of Windwood Health & Rehab Center, died Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at the Methodist Medical Center. She was born September 6, 1923 in Harper, Kansas, the daughter of Fred Edgar Riggs and Abigail Bennett Riggs. Mrs. Campbell was a member of Highland View Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Campbell Street Church of Christ, where she was very active in many of the church programs, including the Ladies Bible Class for 25 years. Her church and her family were her passion. She was an artist who's medium was watercolors and a member of the Artist Guild in Jackson, TN. She loved to travel and visited many national and historic sites with her traveling buddies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her seven siblings and her husband, John Herbert Campbell in 1977. She is survived by: sons, Doug Campbell of Kannapolis, SC and Alan Campbell of Cincinnati, OH; daughter, Nancy Gayle McClane and husband Curtis of Oak Ridg! e; 2 grandchildren, Sonya Marie Luchauer and husband Erik and Amber Antoine and husband Kevin, all of Knoxville. Kurt, who attended Grace Lutheran Church, came to know the Lord during his illness and is now living eternally with Him. Kurt, who was a quality engineer, was employed by Alstom Power for almost 30 years. He was a member of Gettysvue Golf and Polo Country Club and a veteran of the US Marine Corps. For many years, Kurt was involved in coordinating a charity golf tournament yearly to support many local organizations and also involved in the planning and organizing of the Bruce Pearl Golf Tournament, Fore the Kids, for which the proceeds go to Camp Koinonia; a week long camp for children with disabilities. She was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church in Powell. She was a longtime loving and faithful servant of the Lord, and former longtime member of House Mountain Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher for 27 years. She was a great prayer warrior, soul winner, gospel song writer, and singer. Preceded in death by parents, Dee and Vena Collins; husband of 44 years, Ross S. Skeen; beloved son, Bobby Skeen; brother, Bill Collins; sister, Edith Collins Miller; and daughter-in-law, Martha Skeen. SNIDER, HOMER CLARENCE - age 90 of Knoxville, son of the late Homer C. and Lockie Sellers Snider, died Wednesday August 8, 2007 at Shannondale Health Care Center. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where he was a former Trustee. Homer, who was a longtime Knoxville Automobile dealer, was retired President of Snider Motor Company, Import Motors, and Sunbeam Motors. He was Past President of New Car Dealers Association of Knoxville. Homer was a former member of the North Knoxville Kiwanis Club and an Army Veteran of WWII where he was a Corporal with the 263rd Coast Artillery. He was also preceded in death by wife, Virginia Ziegler Snider and brother, Harrison L. Snider. Homer is survived by his loving family: son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Snider; daughter, Mary Ann Howard; grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Snider, April Jean Howard, Jessie Erin Howard, Andrew Bell Snider; several nephews. She is survived by her daughters Theresa Carr and Jamey Hutchens. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date to be announced by Gentry-Griffey Chapel. WALLS, CHARLES MAURICE - age 82, a resident of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at his home. Mr. Walls was born December 29, 1924 in Coalfield. During his childhood he lived for a number of years in Harlan County, Kentucky in the community of Chevrolet, which was coal mining community owned by general motors. His father was the general mining superintendent at Chevrolet Coal Company. The Walls family later moved back to Tennessee, and settled in Petros, where his father continued his vocation. The family later established Charles Walls and Sons Coal Company which was a successful coal company operating on Windrock Mountain. Maurice Walls did the original grade work which established the Windrock Mountain Road that is still being used today. He and his brother Reid Walls co-owned Wolf Ridge Mining Company and he later owned and operated Maurice Mining Company. After his graduation from Robertsville High School in Oak Ridge, Mr. Walls entered the United States Army! serving his country during WWII. His company, the Seven Hundred and Fifty Second Engineering Corp invaded the Normandy Beach Head on the 6th day of the invasion. The company was awarded numerous accommodations and citations for the services they provided. They were responsible for moving equipment and supplies and often found themselves behind enemy lines. Mr. Walls and his family moved from Petros to Oliver Springs in 1948. He was widely recognized as a true and loving friend to many, many people and a discretely considerate and charitable person who was a member and served as a deacon of the Oliver Springs First Baptist Church. He was a 32 degree master mason and a member of the Omega Masonic Lodge # 536 F&AM. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He became an accomplished marksman who won a national skeet shooting award. He was a licensed pilot who enjoyed flying, bowling, golfing, and he was an avid University Of Tennessee Football supporter and fan.
