M.D. - died peacefully at his home in Maumee, Ohio, on Friday, November 30, 2007, surrounded by his children. He was 74 years old. Ramzy was born March 19, 1933, to Naguib and Angele Mikhail in Cairo, Egypt. He attended medical school in Egypt at Ain Shams University and completed his medical training in various hospitals throughout the United States beginning in 1959. He married Maryse Doss in 1957, and they immigrated permanently to the U.S. in 1967. They treasured each other and their friends and family together for nearly 45 years before Maryse's death in 2002. Dr. Mikhail was a skilled and pioneering surgeon who practiced medicine in Toledo, Ohio for 30 years. He was devoted to his patients and will be remembered by those who worked with him and were treated by him as much for his dedication and kindness as for his precision and insistence on excellence. He served as Chief of Surgery and later Chief of Staff at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio. Ramzy ! retired from practicing medicine in 2000 and moved to Knoxville. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Knoxville and a Paul Harris Fellow. Ramzy was also a member of the Friendship Force of Knoxville and enjoyed his travels throughout the world with that organization and its members. Ramzy was a true intellectual with an amazing capacity and desire to learn. He loved art, music, wine, history, politics, reading, and travel. He cherished his friends, always sought out good conversation, and loved a good laugh. Ramzy will be greatly missed by all his friends and family, including his seven grandchildren, who were the delight of his life. Returning from the Army Medical Corps in 1948, he completed his residency in Pediatrics at Knox General before entering private practice for 27 years in Etowah and Athens. He then went into industrial medicine as Olin Chemical's Medical Director based in Charleston, Tennessee for 13 years. Retiring from practice in 1987, he continued his medical services part-time at Olin and Bowater Paper Corporation of Calhoun, Tennessee. He was a member of the Medical Societies of McMinn County, Tennessee, and America. Dr. Whittle served as a Diplomat of both the American Academy of Family Practice and the Academy of Occupational Medicine. During! his industrial medicine years, he worked with the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, on numerous environmental studies. He was a member of the Chlorine Institute and the Tennessee Commission of Industrial Health. Dr. Whittle served as a member of the Etowah School Board, was Unaka District Director of the Boy Scouts of America, and was an ordained lay speaker in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert Pitner Whittle, Sr., and Louise Webb Whittle and by his son-in-law Patrick Ellington, MD. After retiring to Port Charlotte, Fla. in 1993, he moved to Lenoir City in 2003. There he attended the Maranatha Church of the Harvest and was a transport for Christ Chaplain. He began volunteering for TFC in 1986 when the organization located their first chapel at a Harrisburg, Penn. truck stop. Until a stroke in 2006, he and his wife traveled in their motor home and attended gospel hymn sings. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte (Stanton); three children, Glenn (Sue) of High Bridge, NJ, Kay Gerber(Daryl) of Palmyra and Douglas (Marta) of St. Louis, MO; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
