She graduated high school in 1930, and attended Florida State College for Women. She was a member of the first class of Lively Technical School. In 1948 she married Ernest B. Johnson who was an engineer for General Electric, whose job allowed the family to travel extensively. She was an accomplished piano player, Ella Mae performed on stage and radio. During World War II she was employed by Goodyear Aircraft. Ella retired from the Leon County Board of Public Education. He died peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was on this earth for 83 years. Born to Max and Dora Swersky, Russian and Hungarian immigrants, in the Bronx of New York, he spent his youth and consequently the rest of his life in the constant pursuit of knowledge, love and truth. After joining the Army Air Corps in the heat of the Second World War his aircraft ran into trouble and was forced to land in Knoxville where he visited the local USO and met his loving wife of 61 years, Frances Rita Disney. After returning from his deployment to North Africa and the Burma Theater they were married and soon had their first of 6 children. Norman graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Agriculture. His desire to become a veterinarian was sacrificed in order to provide for his growing family. He was the district manager for The Prudentia! l and continued his military career with the Tennessee Air National Guard in the 119th Tactical Squadron. He retired in 1975 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Norman had a veracious appetite for education and passed this on to all whom he came in contact with. He kept his family close through camping vacations, boating on the Tennessee River and a strict 6:00 "Be home for dinner" policy. He was an avid handball player, wine maker, swimmer, chess player, reader, cook, and gardener. He and his wife Frances enjoyed spending the last twenty winters in Destin, Florida where he worked on writing his Memoirs "There Must Be A Pony", and enjoying swimming and keeping his summer tan. Sw ersky and wife Patti all of Knoxville; thirteen grandchildren, Lauren Barnes, Husband Wesley, Jessica Swersky, Aaron Swersky & Hannah Dowbiggin, Julia & Kurt Purvis, Whitney & Tracey Myers, Rachel & Holly Swersky, Amy, Jennifer, & John Gamble; and two great-granddaughters, Ava G. Myers and Madilyn G. Barnes. He is also survived by two sisters, Lenore Areman of New Jersey, Gail Helfand of New York; brother, Herbert Swersky of Florida; two daughters in-law, Gail Gamble, Melodie Dowbiggin; and many dear friends and extended family. She was saved in 1955 and baptized into the Second Baptist Church of Russellville, KY. She lived most of her life in Russellville, KY. She and her first husband James W. Bond owned and operated a grocery store in Homer, KY. In 1948 they opened the Bond Feed Mill in Russellville, KY and operated in until retirement in 1968. After retirement they operated the Bond-Turner Antique Shop for a period of time. She will be missed by family and friends and all who knew her. Survivors: sons, John E. He passed away suddenly at home. Bud was a Christian and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Jefferson City. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Bud was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1954 and All County Football Star in 1953. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 1954 - 1956. Bud served the City of Knoxville Fire Department for 31 years as fireman, Assistant Chief and Fire Marshal, and served as Director of Arson Investigation for the state of Tennessee for three years. He also served the Knox County Court as a subpoena officer for eight years. He was with the March for Jesus Board for 15 years and has been involved with The Gideons East Camp for six years in charge of Bible distribution. Bud was a very active member of Knox County Republican Party. He was a devoted U. T. fan. He was preceded in death by his! parents, Carlos R. and Ruby Palmer Witt and by his brother, Carlos R.
