    2. BROOKS, MRS. JOSIE LENA - age 70 of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital. Arrangements will be announced later. Jarnigan & Son Mortuary in charge. DAVIS, GERALDEAN JACKSON -age 75, went to her Heavenly home December 24, 2007 after a sudden illness. Born deaf, she was a 1954 graduate of the Tennessee School for the Deaf, Knoxville. She became a Christian at an early age, and grew up in the ministry to the Deaf at First Baptist Church of Knoxville and taught children's Sunday School classes, sang in the Sign Language Choir, and enjoyed teaching American Sign Language to hearing people. She and her husband were approved by the Department of Human Services as foster parents, and had a total of seven foster children who were deaf. She was well known for her ability as a seamstress, quilt maker, craftsperson, and doing needlework and crocheting. She was an active member of Temple Baptist Church of Powell. She was preceded in death by her father, Chester Ray Jackson, mother, Virginia Mae Jackson, and sister, Carolyn Jackson Ice. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 39 years, Rev. William E. (Ed) Davis; children: Ju! lia Ann Davis of Gatlinburg, TN; Barry Davis and wife Tess, of Knoxville, TN; George Davis and wife Kyla, of Knoxville, TN; step-sons Ed, Jr. and wife Claudia of Atoka, TN; Greg Davis and wife Paula of Murrell's Inlet, SC. Sister Hildreth supported church missions and helped build two memorial churches in Brazil and Africa. She was elected as Woman of the Year in the state of Tennessee for Senior Citizens. OPPEGARD, JOAN ALBERTA - age 73 of Knoxville, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 23rd. Beloved wife, mother and Mamaw, Joan dedicated her life to loving and guiding her large family. Left to mourn her passing is Galen Keith Oppegard, her husband of 50 years, her 8 children, and 30 grandchildren. Joan was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota on October 3rd, 1934. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1956 from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN. An important part of her life was living and sharing her faith. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to always attend church and grow in the love of Christ. Joan was a founding member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church where she remained an active and fervent member the rest of her life. From large candle-lit dinners for the Holidays to garden parties for the grandchildren, Joan created special memories for all. She loved crafts and cooking. She was an accomplished seamstress who sewed and smocked beautif! ul heirloom garments for her grandchildren. In addition to being a teacher, Girl Scout leader, and career counselor, Joan's hobbies included analyzing the Stock Market. She established a women's investment group and taught classes in stock selection throughout Knoxville. Joan combined her love for travel and education with a trip to New York City and a meeting with the President of the New York Stock Exchange. Joan believed in being an achiever and encouraged her loved ones to do the same. One of her proudest moments came when her son Peter Oppegard earned an Olympic Medal in Pairs Figure Skating in Calgary Canada in 1988. Greg spent his childhood and teen years in Ossineke, MI, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and other outdoor activities before moving to Knoxville in 1981. Like his dad, Greg took great pride in his skill as a carpenter and had worked on many homes and structures in the Knoxville area. Greg was known as a big guy with a big heart. At times, he opened his home to the homeless. If anyone needed a hand he was always there to help. He enjoyed socializing with his friends at the "social club/community center", solving Sudoku puzzles, and cooking for friends. Larry was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed working in the sound room. He was a hunter and an avid sporting clay shooter and will be missed by his "shooting buddies". He served his country with the Air Force and the Air National Guard. He retired as Senior Master Sergeant in August 1994. His military service included the Cuban Missile Crisis, Strike Force in Thailand, and Desert Storm.
