He was sixty-nine. Born in Jamestown, TN, July 11, 1938, to Kathleen (Smith) Beaty and the late Houston Roberts Beaty, he spent most of his childhood in Fentress County, graduating from York Agricultural Institute in 1956. He then attended Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, TN, from 1956-1958. He served for three years in the United States Army and following an honorable discharge in 1962, enrolled at the University of Tennessee College Law. He was awarded his doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1965. Entering private practice in 1966, he worked in Jamestown and later, Oneida. From 1966 until 1976, he served as a part time Assistant District Attorney General for the 19th Judicial Circuit. He was a partner in the law firm Sexton, Sexton, Beaty & Seals (now Sexton, Sexton & Kazee) for more than twenty-five y! ears, during which he represented hundreds of his fellow Scott Countians. He always considered himself a "country lawyer", and was proud to assist country people in legal matters. He was also proud to represent them in the Tennessee House of Representatives in the 91st General Assembly, where he served the people of Scott, Pickett, Clay, Jackson and Smith counties from 1979 until 1981. In 1980, the Tennessee Digest rated him fifth among the most effective freshmen legislators. Active in church and community, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneida for thirty-eight years and was also a member of the Optimist and Lions Clubs and the Scott County Bar Association, which he served for a time as president. He served as attorney for the City of Oneida during the initial development of the Oneida City Park and also served as attorney for Scott County Government before it became an elected position. He served on the Board of Directors of the Scott County Hospi! tal in the 1970's. In the mid 1980's, then Gov. Lamar Alexande! r appoin ted him to service on the Tennessee Juvenile Justice Commission. He was preceded in death by father, Houston Roberts Beaty. He was a lifelong resident of South Knoxville. John established Westside Drapery in 1971 along with his wife Judy and was active in the business up until his death. Member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. John enjoyed traveling, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family and was very proud of his grandchildren. Princilla was born in Berea, KY to Loretta Taft Coleman and Charles Andrew Coleman. In 1937, she married Bennett Young Wallace who owned the Model Laundry which later merged with Knoxville Steam and Star Laundry. During World War II, Princilla took over operation of the laundry business in B.Y.'s absence for four years, and continued to work with B.Y. at the laundry for its duration. Princilla was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years: her four brothers, Garland Coleman, Carlos Coleman, Olin Coleman, and Marvin Prince. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred Elmo Wallace and Mary Marshall Wallace; two grandchildren, John Marshall Wallace, David Lloyd Wallace, all of Knoxville, TN; and sister-in-law, Faye Evans Prince of Benton, KY. Princilla was a long-time resident of Sequoyah Village Apartments and a frequent visitor of the Sequoyah Hills branch library where she ch! ecked out seven books a week and the librarians noted her initials in books she had read. More recently, Princilla spent her last ten years in Zion Home for the Aged where her family is most grateful to Peggy for her loving care.
