During her college years at LMU, she was a member of the Delta Theta Sigma sorority. Janice taught English in the Oak Ridge school system and in Norris. She was a talented artist and painted many floral scenes and enjoyed her flowers, spending hours gardening until her failing health would not allow such activities. She was an avid birdwatcher and made sure the neighborhood birds were well fed. Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Etta Mae (Ammons) McCullough and her husband, W.E. Mrs. Hembree was born July 28, 1905 in Coalfield. On the 29th day of December, 1929 she married Elmer Holmes Hembree and they moved to the Wheat Community in Roane County. Following the death of Mr. Hembree on October 25, 1942 she moved back to her beloved Coalfield into the home which was built by her late father where she lived until her death. She was a loving, compassionate mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. The greatest joy in her life was her family. In addition to her family she enjoyed worshiping, singing, raising chickens, and her garden, both vegetables and flowers. She was a charter member of the Coalfield Senior Citizens. She was also a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church however she faithfully attended Big Mountain Baptist Chur! ch. Moore at The First Christian Church in Pennington Gap. He was a graduate of Pennington High School, class of 1935. Dr. Orr attended Milligan College for two years and received a B. S. degree in Education from Radford College in 1945. He earned his M. S. degree from the University of Tennessee in 1946 and a Doctor of Education degree from UT in 1965. He was a teacher and principal in the Lee County Public Schools for 9 years. He taught and served as principal in Bristol, TN, Wythe, County, VA, Washington County, TN, and Johnson City, TN public schools. He was principal at Sulphur Springs High School from 1950 thru 1955. He was a co-coordinator of Student Teaching at Appalachian State University and Knoxville College. He is ! survived by his wife, Gertrude Potter Orr of the home; by one brother, Dr. Clyde L. PHILLIPS, STONE RIVER AUGUSTAS - age 12 of Lenoir City passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2007. Some Call It Heaven, I Just Call It Home, was Stone's favorite gospel song. He began his journey to his Heavenly Home when he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior this year at Hensley's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. Stone was only 12 years of age but he made a lasting impression on everyone he met with his bigger than life personality. He had a sense of humor and insight into others that went beyond his years. Stone was an organ donor and that is something that he would be proud of. Those awaiting Stone in heaven are family members that have preceded him in death: grandfather, Cyril Hensley; great grandparents, Arthur and Linva Rose, Hence Columbus and Nora Hensley all of Corbin, KY. He is survived by his parents, Steven and Gretta Hensley Phillips; brother, Clay Ross Phillips; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Madge Hensley; paternal grandmother, Irene Hinkle; grandfather, Doug Wil! son; many aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Click Funeral Home, Lenoir City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Lenoir City with Elder Ricky Wiggans officiating. Family and friends will gather at 4 p.m. Saturday at Wolf Pit Cemetery in the Daniel Boone National Forest in Corbin, KY for graveside services.
