KITTRELL, JAMES HOUSTON,(SHORTY) age 68 of Oakdale passed away Thursday November 22, 2007 at Rockwood Health Care & Rehab Center. He was a beloved father, grandfather & brother. [Kyker Funeral Home] ----------------- WILLIAM BLOUNT "BILL", went to sleep in Jesus Wednesday, November 21, 2007 while in the attendance of his beloved wife, Thelma, two daughters, two nephews, and his son-in-law. He was preceded in death by parents, Millard and Virgie Lyles, his son, Gary Blount Lyles, a daughter, Karen Sue Lyles, and two grandsons, Allen “Sonny” Cox III and William “Les” Lyles. Bill and Thelma met in Savannah, Georgia where they were married on June 5, 1943. They were married for 64 years of which he was very proud. They returned to Coalfield, Tennessee where Bill had grown up. Here Bill and Thelma raised their family; one son, Gary and four daughters; Charlotte Ann Isbell, Jeanette Cox, Regina Kay Cross, and Karen Sue Lyles. Additionally he has one son-in-law, Eddie Cross and he had 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Wade Adcock, wife Star and son Jake were considered as family. Bill was a famous athlete; he was the quarterback of the only Tennessee 6-man football team won the state championship for Coalfield High School in 1941. Also in 1941 he went to the University Of Tennessee and won the state championship in swimming freestyle. Bill was a devout Christian serving the local Seventh-day Adventist Church as an Elder for almost 50 years. He also held other offices in the church. He was well known for his knowledge in the Bible, history and genealogy. In fact, he is called the historian of Morgan County. He promoted gardening, exercise, and vegetarianism and all aspects of healthy living. He was a vegetarian for well over 50 years. He was a diversified man who worked in various occupations including coal mining, the Y-12 plant in the electrical maintenance department, a Christian literature salesman, and he retired from Tibbel’s Flooring in Oneida as the head maintenance supervisor. He was very proud of his Coalfield community, the church, and family. He was an avid UT fan. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 25, 2007 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 pm at the Seventy-day Adventist Church in Coalfield. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 pm in the church with Rev. Milton Pruitt officiating. Burial and graveside services will be held Monday, November 26, 2007 at 11:00 am at Estes Cemetery in Coalfield. The family request memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37909 for research of Mesothelioma cancer.
