    2. BARKER, FRANCES DYER - age 102, of Kingston, died Saturday, November 17, 2007. A Cookeville native, she had moved to Kingston from Chattanooga in 1981, following the death of her husband, Carl Leon Barker. A talented musician, she played the piano and organ. At the age of 75, she took up oil painting and exhibited her works at numerous shows in East Tennessee; she had been a member of Knoxville Porcelain Painters. Surviving are her son and daughter in law, Mark and Sarah Barker of Kingston; daughter and son in law, Sharon and Roy Tunnell of Spring, TX; granddaughter, Rebecca Barker Price of Bradenton, FL, Scott Barker of Knoxville, John and Ryan Tunnell of Spring, TX; three great granddaughters and one great-great granddaughter. Funeral services 1:00 PM Friday at the First Baptist Church, Kingston, with the Rev. Sonny Works officiating. Deacons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at 3:30 PM Friday in the Benton Cemetery, Benton, TN. The family will receive friends ! at the church for one hour prior to the service beginning at noon. BROGAN, JUDGE WILLARD J. - was born June 24, 1916 and passed away November 20, 2007 after suffering a massive stroke on March 13, 2007. Judge Brogan compiled a record of public service throughout his life. He was General Sessions Judge of Claiborne County for 13 years. He was County Commissioner and Justice of the Peace for 20 years and also served as Claiborne County Coroner for several years. Judge Brogan helped organize the Claiborne County Rescue Squad and served 34 years as its captain. He served as a member of the Claiborne County Hospital Board for several years. He owned and operated Brogan's Grocery on Hwy. 33 in Cedar Grove from 1948-1983. He was also a lifelong farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Thus Brogan; sister, Bethel Dalton; brothers, Malcom and Dvon Brogan and son-in-law, Hollis E. Smith. She was born in Torrington, Ct. November 12, 1915, and daughter of the late John and Anna Zaharek Grinvalsky. She graduated from Western Connecticut State Teacher's College. Elizabeth (Betty) taught first grade in the Torrington and Stamford school system for 42 years, retiring in 1980 from Willard Elementary School in Stamford, Ct. Betty was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Farragut, TN. While living in Stamford, Ct., She was a member of St. Benedict Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and later served as a volunteer Director of Religious Education at the church for 7 years, from 1984 to 1992. She was also a member of the Hubbard Heights Garden Club, the Rehabilitation Center of Connecticut, and the Connecticut Retired Teachers' Association. She also tutored students on a volunteer basis. Elizabeth served as C! ertified Hospice Volunteer and her hobbies included raising Jackson Perkins rose bushes, for which she won many awards. One of the highlights of Elizabeth's career was being selected as one of ten "Outstanding Volunteers" in the State of Connecticut in 1986, by the Hartford Courant Newspaper. She was presented with a beautiful Plaque and had the honor of meeting Mrs. Barbara Bush, who was the Keynote Speaker that year. Betty also received the annual Southwestern Connecticut Association of Life Underwriters Humanitarian Award in 1987. Elizabeth was predeceased by her brothers: Rev. Stephen A. M.D. - age 71, of West Knoxville, son of the late Roy L. and Lottie Young Seals, departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father Sunday, November 18, 2007 from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was a member of West Park Baptist Church. Roy graduated from West High School where he played football and basketball and earned college scholarships in both sports. He elected to go to University of Tennessee, Knoxville on a football scholarship. While in college, he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and with two years of football eligibility left, he elected to go to medical school at U.T. Memphis. Roy graduated from U.T. Medical School in 1961. After graduation, he did an internship at Confederate Memorial Hospital in Shreveport, LA. and upon finishing, did a surgical residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA. He then returned to Memphis for his otolaryngology residency. Roy started his private practice in 196! 7 and in 1968 he passed his otolaryngology boards to became a fellow in the American College of Surgeons. In 1990 and 1991 he became President of the Otolaryngology Society of Tennessee. He was in the United States Army Reserves for twelve years and retired as a Major. Roy leaves behind his loving wife, Susan and former wife, Mary Seals, whom is the mother of his three sons, James L. Seals, MD and wife, Brenda; M. Taite Seals, MD and wife, Jule; David E. Seals and wife, Diane. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Courtney, Kimberly, Charissa, Madeline and David Seals; his dear friend, Debbie Jones and many other special friends. The family received friends Tuesday from 6-8 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel. SPRAKER, AVERY LEEPER - age 77 of Chattanooga, formerly of Lenoir City passed away Monday, November 19, 2007. He was a Christian and a gentleman. During his twenty years of service in the U. S. Air Force, he served in other countries and was stationed at many bases in the United States, including the Pentagon. After retiring from the Air Force, he made his home at the St. Barnabas Apartments in Chattanooga. He become involved with the many activities sponsored there and served on the resident council and other committees. Avery was a great help to many of the residents who needed assistance. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Elmer Fred Spraker, Sr. and Addie Grace Magill Spraker; brothers, Robert Rex Spraker and Elmer Fred Spraker, Jr. He is survived by his brother, William Edward Spraker of Lenoir City; sisters, Margaret Walsh of Massachusetts and Ruth Robertson of Dalton, GA; brother-in-law, Wayne Robertson of Dalton, GA; nieces and nephews: Pamela Signore! lli, Byron Zakos, Jimmy Zakos, Anthony Robertson, Geoff Robertson, Janet Robertson and Amy Graniette; many great nephews and great nieces; other family members include, Russ Borum and family of Kingston, Phyllis Marius and family of Lenoir City.
