John's professional career in sales took them to Des Moines, Iowa, and Tyler, Texas, where they lived during the 1950's. In 1958, he and his family returned to Knoxville to settle down and start his business called Terry Toy Company. He built this business into a thriving enterprise during the 1960's, and added another business called Goodman Investment Company, which focused on real estate investment and management. During the 1970's, he opened Goodman's Tots-To-Teens and Fashion Studio in South Knoxvi! lle with his wife, Leone. John was an active, long-time member of First Baptist Church in Knoxville. He was very involved in his community, serving as President of the South Knoxville Optimist Club, and chairman of the American Legion's annual high school oratorical contest. He was an Honor Graduate of Northwestern Polytechnic University and held membership in the IEEE and the American Society for Quality. David had interests in music, was an excellent songwriter and was extremely accomplished musically on the guitar, piano and vocally. His life-long musical friends include some residing back in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he grew up; as well as some from Arizona.
