He was born in Pomona, California on September 16, 1953, the son of George L. and Josephine St. Pierre Bird. He graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1983. Mr. Bird spent many years working as a talented engineer and designer in many settings. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held the office of Elder. He found much joy in time spent out of doors and his love and pursuit of music in all genres. He will be missed among his local congregation and those he has met through his church associations in many other places. He and Wendy Munton were married August 4, 1973. They were sealed with their children for time and all eternity in the Atlanta Georgia Temple on August 4, 1995. He was born in Manila, Arkansas on August 21, 1918 to Doctor and Mrs. Vernon Fox. Billy was valedictorian of his high school graduating class from Manila High School. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a B.S. and B.B.A. degrees in 1939. He attended the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock, Arkansas for one year and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Billy served in World War II as a medic in the Army Fourth Division. He landed on Utah Beach during the Normandy Invasion on D-Day and served overseas for eighteen months in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. He fought in the Battles of Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France, Central Europe and the Ardennes. Billy was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor above and beyond the call of duty, the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge and the European-African Middle-eastern Theater Ribbon with five Bronz! e Battle Stars. After the war he returned to Arkansas and entered a career of banking where he retired as Executive Vice-President and Trust Officer of First Bank and Trust Company of Cairo, Illinois. He was active in community affairs where he served as President of the Manila Lions Club, the Cairo Illinois Rotary Club and the Cairo Alexander County Chamber of Commerce. Billy was a member of the United Methodist Church where he held various leadership positions throughout his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Marion, to whom he was married for over sixty-four years; his sons, Garrad L. She met her husband, Ed, in Washington, D.C. in March of 1939. They married on September 2, 1939, a love and marriage that lasted 62 and a half years. She believed in community service and the opportunities that church and club membership made possible. She was a member of First Christian Church of Knoxville for more than 50 years where she served in the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a devoted member of Ossoli Circle for more than 50 years, serving as president in 1990-1991 and parliamentarian for many years. She was a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Tennessee and served as state parliamentarian several terms. She was a nomine! e for GFWC club woman of the year in 2005. She was a graduate of Knoxville High School. She and her husband were active for many years as supporters of Little League, Babe Ruth League and Bearden High School athletic activities. Her door was always open, and many were the lunches that she served to neighborhood kids and strangers alike. Her homemade hot tamales were legendary. She loved music, from Beethoven to Scott Joplin, and was an accomplished pianist. Any dog or bird that was lucky enough to land at the Morgan house was destined for a life of luxury. After their sons were raised, she and her husband Howard traveled extensively until his illness prevented further trips. She cared for him lovingly throughout his long! illness until his death in 1995 after 54 years of marriage.
