CRANFILL, JOHN RALPH - of Hickory Creek Rd., Lenoir City, died Thursday morning November 8, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospice, Knoxville, after a five month battle with Leukemia. Ralph was born January 26, 1923 in Miegs, Co., TN to John Wesley and Beshia Trew Cranfill. Ralph was a longtime resident of Chicago and retired from Jewel Food Markets where he was a produce manager. After his retirement, he moved back to Tennessee and built a home in Lenoir City. He was a master gardener and impressed everyone with his beautiful vegetables and flowers. He took great pride in his lawn, which was always perfect. For the last three years, his constant companion was a beautiful Himalayan cat named Orbit. Ralph served his country during WW II in the US Army 792nd Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion in England, France Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Iva B. She graduated from Central High School in Knoxville and attended colleges in Alabama and Tennessee. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church in Knoxville before moving to Tryon, NC in 1969. She and her husband, Richard Eugene Gaut, owned and operated Melrose Lodge in Tyron, NC for a number of years. More than 20 years ago, she moved to Hendersonville, NC and was employed by Belk department store before her retirement. The son of the late Ross Leslie Jamison and Atha Cravens Self Jamison, he was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1922. Ross graduated with a degree in Chemistry from the University of Arkansas in 1944 where he was elected into Phi Beta Kappa. After moving to Oak Ridge in 1944, he worked at Y-12 for 41 years. For many years after he retired, he enjoyed getting together with his retiree group every month. In 1946 he married his beloved Alice for whom he cared during her slow decline into dementia, his devotion to her will be well remembered. Every day they would sit in the lobby of the Retirement Community holding hands, and each evening he would kiss her goodnight in the elevator when they got to his floor. Ross had a love affair with words, creating crossword puzzles that were published in the National Observer and the New York Times. He won awards for some of his puzzles, including one that consisted of all! palindromes. He continued to work crossword puzzles almost until his death. Ross and Alice were active in square dancing for many years, even attending national events and dancing on the field of Neyland Stadium during half-time. Ross was a member of First United Methodist Church. He volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels and was an active member of the Oak Ridge community. He believed in the importance of volunteerism and instilled those values in his children. He was well known for his sense of humor and his twinkly wit. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Alice Collier Jamison. He is also survived by their son Bill, his wife Debbie, and one grandson, Trevor Jamison of Missouri City, Texas; daughter Lib Jamison of Cumberland, Maine; his sister, Pat Jamison Moore and her husband Neal of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina; and sisters-in-law Marilyn Rabalais and Sandra Sietman of Alexandria, Louisiana and brother-in-law J. KALIEBE, ROBERT (BOB) C. - age 86, a resident of Knoxville for almost 25 years, originally from Milwaukee, WI went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 6, 2007. Bob was a POW from WWII, veteran of the United States Army. Bob was a decorated Purple Heart recipient. Mr. Kaliebe worked for Square D electrical company as a superintendent. After retiring he stayed busy working with Pinkerton Security doing what he loved, socializing. Bob was the doorman at the player's locker room for the Master's Golf Tournament for many years. He cherished his extensive collection of friends, pen pals, and mementos from years of service at PGA Tournaments around the country. After retiring Bob used his wonderful singing voice to lift the hearts of seniors all over east TN, singing gospel and oldies in Nursing homes.
