E.) - age 90 passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at his home in South Knoxville after an extended battle with leukemia. He was born and raised in the Camp Austin Community of Oakdale in Morgan County. He was the son of Albert and Rosa Chapman. Mr. Chapman served as a Sgt. in the Infantry during WWII. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the EAML Theater Ribbon with 4 bronze stars, Good Conduct Ribbon and the Purple Heart with 2 bronze clusters. He was a Lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1733. He was a devout Christian and member of Greenway Baptist Church were he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member until he was no longer able to attend. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Robbie Headrick, Faye Chapman, and Betty Summers; half sisters, Julie Cagle, Mary Taylor, Georgia Langley and Ruby Ooten. He was also preceded by brothers, A.B. Chapman and Russell Chapman; half brothers Ed, Harry and John. Mrs. McClure was an active member of Central Baptist Bearden and the Gleaners Sunday School Class, after she and her husband relocated to Knoxville from Chattanooga in 1988, until ill health prevented her involvement. Mrs. McClure was a graduate of University of Florida (B.S), University of Chattanooga, (M.S.) with additional course work at University of Tennessee Knoxville. She was an outstanding student whom professors remembered and a member of Phi Kappa Phi. She was a lifelong educator, having begun teaching in a one- room school house in Clay County, Kentucky. Additionally, she taught in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee for almost 40 years. Mrs. McClure was a pioneer Special Educator, instituting special classes and programs in Gainesville, GA and Hamilton County, TN. She also served as a guidance counselor, math teacher, and homebound teacher in Chattanooga. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Charles "Chuck" McClure who died in 2002; her parents, Judge and Mrs. Charles House White (Nora Sizemore) of Manchester, KY; her brothers, Charles H. Born June 14, 1929 and originally from the Crossville area, Bud was known by many as a barber in Kingston for over 50 years. He served as a Barber Inspector for the State of Tennessee. For many years he was a real estate broker with his own business in Kingston. He was a proud Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Masonic Lodge Union #38 and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Knoxville. Also a member of the Kerbela Shrine Temple of Knoxville and the American Legion. In his early years, Bud had served as a volunteer fireman and sheriff's department deputy. In 1976 he was awarded the rank of Colonel, Aide de Camp, Governor's Staff by the Governor of Tennessee. Bud loved to play golf and for years was a regular at local courses and enjoyed playing in tournaments. He was especially proud of the hole-in-one he got at Southwest Point Golf Course, hole #9 in 1978. He was a well known and beloved member of the community and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
