RAILROAD OFFICER KNIFED BY NEGRO Posse of Several Hundred Persons Seek Assailant, Who Stabbed Officer OAKDALE, Tenn.; May 16 (AP) - Marion Goodman, 29, southern railway special officer, was in a critical condition today from knife wounds and Herbert Robertson, a negro, lay dead while a posse of several hundred persons sought Goodman's assailant. Goodman was stabbed in the back yesterday by an unidentified negro under arrest on a trespassing charge. The negro seized Goodman's pistol and fled, firing at other officers who assisted in the arrest. A few hours later, J. B. Moore, another special officer, accosted Robertson, a Chattanooga negro, in the railroad yards. When asked to raise his hands the negro made a motion as if to draw a weapon, Moore said, and the officer shot him dead. So far as could be learned, Robertson was not connected with the attack on Goodman but authorities today were seeking to determine whether he or the other negro sought by the possemen had any part in the recent slaying of W. A. Brown, Birmingham, Ala., officer. The appearance of the negro who fled, they say, tallied with descriptions of a negro who killed Brown.
