He majored in Psychology at the University of Tennessee and was an avid writer. HUNTER, JOSEPH RICHARD - age 42 of Strawberry Plains died on Saturday May 5 2007 at St Mary's Medical Center following his battle with cancer. He was born June 28 1964 in Knoxville Tennessee He was a graduate of Carter High School and attended Trentville United Methodist Church. Until time of illness was employed at Delta Apparel and enjoyed working on his cars. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry Truslow and Jewell Virginia (Irwin) Hunter; uncle Jackson Akers Hunter; grandparents, Charles and Grace Baker Irwin, Peter Leath and Annie May Jackson Hunter; aunt Helen Read Hunter. Survivors: son and daughter in law, Cpl. Michael Joshua and Anna (McMullen) Hunter USMC Retired; sons Joseph Shelby Hunter and Travis Kyle Hunter; step-daughter Nikki Shea Slagle all of Knoxville; sister and brother in law Nancy B. Hunter and Edward S. Wallace of Fort Collins Colorado; brother and sister in law Daniel W. and Debra K. (Davis) Hunter of Strawberry Plains; devoted friend Pamela Janine Davis; aunts Nannie Jo (Irwin) Lee of Kingsport , Nelle (Irwin) Strange of Knoxville; several cousins and his faithful dog Lady. A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at Gentry-Griffey Chapel Rev. Dean Smith officiating.
