Gaylor Goins, age 90 of LaFollette Meek Franklin Hammac, 85, Arnold L. Hatmaker, age 70, of Allen Park, MI, Jacqulyn C. "Detta" Hatmaker, age 65, a resident of Cleveland Nell Dallas Proffitt, age 97 of Old Hwy 63, Speedwell Garry D. (Spooley) Ward, age 59, of Jacksboro Shirley Jean (Marlow) Carter, age 55, of Knoxville, formerly of Lake City passed away July 13. She was born Feb. 11, 1952 in Lake City to the late J.D. and Rosa Kennedy Marlow. She was a member of the Schultz Hollow Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time and talking to her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Carter and daughter, Robin Renee Carter. She is survived by her sons, Carson Ray Carter and wife, Beth of Clinton, John Carter of Clinton and Darrell Carter of Knoxville; fiancé, Ron Hitchcock of Knoxville; brother, Rev. Charlie Mack Marlow and wife, Becky of Oliver Springs; sisters, Allene Adkins and husband, Steve of Clinton, Wanda Adkins of Dandridge; grandchildren, Nicole, Austin and Johnathan Carter. Funeral services were held July 15 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Overton officiating. Interment was in the Hall's Memorial Garden. LaFollette Press July 19, 2007 Thomas Jefferson Coil, a resident of LaFollette, passed away July 15 at his residence at the age of 71 after living a glorious life for his Lord. He loved to work and he had numerous professions during his life including farm-hand, carpenter, railroad worker, and salesman. His most recent place of employment was Smith Ace Hardware in LaFollette. Born on Sept. 11, 1935, in Bellefontaine, OH, he was raised in an orphanage. After leaving the orphanage, he traveled the country and eventually settled in LaFollette. after meeting his wife-to-be. Tom was born again on January 1, 1976, at the age of 40. He was a dedicated, faithful worker for his Lord and was a member and deacon of Elm Grove Baptist Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. Coil, Sr. and Eliza Barnes Coil. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Wilma Coil of LaFollette; daughter, Tammy Ballinger and husband, Jeff of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Matthew Ballinger of Blacksburg, VA and Christie Ballinger of Augusta, GA; sister, Francis Hillires; brother, Ernest Coil; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be July 19 at 11 a.m. at the Elm Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Riggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Powell Valley Cemetery and Memorial Gardens. Gaylor Goins, age 90 of LaFollette passed away July 12 at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in LaFollette. She was a member of Fordtown Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Goins; daughter, Janet Overton; parents, Parnick and Ella Ridenour Gaylor. She is survived by her son, Glen E. Goins and wife, Deloris of LaFollette; grandsons, Larry Goins and wife, Cathy of Greentown, IN, Kevin Overton of LaFollette, and Doug Overton of Knoxville; four great grandchildren; sister, Mary Stiles of Claxton and brother, Avon Gaylor of Chattanooga; several other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held July 15 at the Walters Chapel with Rev. Charles Jack Goins and Rev. Don Whited officiating. Interment was in the Powell Valley Cemetery and Memorial Gardens. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. LaFollette Press July 19, 2007 Meek Franklin Hammac, 85, went home to his mansion in the sky on July 9 at the Middlesboro Appalachian Hospital. He was born on Aug. 3, 1921 in Lee County, VA, the son of Luther and Molly Hammac. He was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church. He retired from the L & N Railroad after many years working as a crane operator. He was an ordained Deacon and belonged to the Masonic Lodge. He loved working in his vegetable gardens and sharing his bounty with his friends and neighbors. He loved to read the Bible and quoted scriptures to everyone he met. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lassie Ivey and brother, Sewell Hammac. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 ½ years, Mary Beatrice Hammac; devoted daughter, Patty (Ralph) Mills of Middlesboro; daughter, Reba Chadwell of Knoxville; extra special grandson, David Wayne Mills of Lawrenceville,VA; grandson, Tom (Lisa) Chadwell of Chattanooga,; granddaughter, Tammy (Steve) Johnson of Nashville; three great grandchildren of Chattanooga; loving and faithful brother, Millard (Geneva) Hammac of LaFollette; sisters-in-law, Ethel (J.C.) Crigger of Middlesboro; Pearl Hammac of Norris; good friend, Lloyd Idol of Middlesboro; special friend and caregiver, Tommy Belcher of Straight Creek; many nieces and nephews; his church family at Northside Baptist Church and his very, very special Yorkshire Terrier, Tank, that he loved so very much. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Asro Proffitt; parents, Jim and Martha Jane Overbay Lumpkins; son, Billy Proffitt; daughters, Betty Jean Marlow and Ottie Proffitt Smith; grandchildren, Caleb Proffitt and Barry Lynn Rogers; brother, James Lumpkins; sisters, Iola, Gladys, Ruth, Bonnie, Madge, and Leotta "Dot". (Spooley) Ward, age 59, of Jacksboro passed away July 12 at VA Medical Center in Nashville. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, but attended Ivey Grove Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, Navy, and National Guard. He was preceded in death by his father, Cordice (Shorty) Ward.
