Helen was a former member of the Mount Calvary Church. In 1966, she joined the Greater Bush Grove Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and a member of the Mother's Board until her death. Until her health failed, she was a member of the church choir. She attended Austin High School, class of 1941. She was employed at the Clinton Laboratory (now Y-12), then for many years worked at Ruby's Hot Tamale Kitchen and in many private homes. She was a member of the Morningside Birthday Club and a former president of the Walter B. Taylor Homes Tenant Association. She had worked in many elections.
