>From The Oak Ridger 210 Jul 2007 Ludell Brock Davis, 93, of Oak Ridge, Jeffery P. Lewis, of Knoxville, Tenn., John Mark Painter, 48, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Jess Wynn, a resident of Wartburg, Ludell Brock Davis, 93, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Briarcliff Health Care Center. She was born May 21, 1914, in Birmingham, Ala., the daughter of Walter and Eppy Lee Harkins Brock. Mrs. Davis was an avid bridge player and was active in various bridge clubs. She was of the Methodist faith. She was a homemaker and active in her son's Scouting program. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Gene Davis, in 2001 and also by seven brothers and sisters and a great-grandson, Scott Davis. She is survived by: sons, Richard O. Davis and wife, Jilda, of Heathsville, Va., and Ronald G. Davis and wife, Sandi, of Weatherford, Texas; and three grandchildren, Richard Davis Jr., Chris Davis and his wife Amy, and Melissa Wiseman and her husband Rob. There are six great- grandchildren, Mitchell Davis, Jackson Davis and Scott (deceased); also Cameron Wiseman, MacKenzie Wiseman and Cindy Davis. She is also survived by wonderful caretakers of many years who became family to her, Phyllis Black, Pat Kennedy, Joyce Smith and Tracy Ridenour and others who did so much for many years. In keeping with Mrs. Davis' wishes, she was cremated. Her ashes will be entombed alongside her husband's at a later date in Oak Ridge Memorial Park. He was born on Nov. 27, 1953, in Knoxville. He grew up in Norris, Tenn., and graduated from Norris High School and the University of Tennessee. Jeff was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Norris and was employed in Knoxville, Memphis, and California at different intervals. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bernis, who passed away in 2005. Jeff is survived by his parents, Dorothy and Fred Lewis of Hendersonville, N.C.; brothers, Eric of Oak Ridge, and Fred of Memphis. A private interment is planned for a later date. Arrangements are by Cremation Options, Inc., Knoxville. John Mark Painter, 48, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., passed away July 18, 2007, at Baptist Hospital West in Knoxville, Tenn. He was born on Aug. 13, 1958, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Nolan Painter and Loretta E. King. He was an automotive technician and worked for Ford Motor Company. His church family was at Oak Ridge Family Bible Church. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Painter, of Oak Ridge, Tenn; very special mom, Mary Painter of Largo, Fla.; special children, SFC Jody Harris of Berea, Ky., Peggy Queener of Helenwood, Tenn., Amie Boatwright and husband, Donald, of Helenwood, Tenn., David Lackey Jr. and wife, Bridget, of North Carolina, and Jason Lackey of Robbins, Tenn.; sisters include Theresa Painter of Largo, Fla., Karen and husband, Ron Styers, of Clearwater, Fla., Regina and husband, Gordon Baird, of Strunk, Ky., Rina and husband, Dan Woodward, of Jamestown, Ky.; one brother, Joseph Painter and wife, Clarissa, of Dunnellon, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and several neices and nephews; special family members Shirlene Chitwood of Winfield, Tenn., Daniel Harris of Newberry S.C., Stanley Harris and wife, Mary, of Ridgecrest Calif., and Dwayne Harris and wife, Gail, of Newberry S.C. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Robert May officiating. Jess Wynn, a resident of Wartburg, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Jackson Madison General Hospital in west Tennessee. He died of lung cancer which had metastasized. Jess Wynn was born in Harlan County, Ky., the 11th of 13 children. He became the first of his family to graduate from high school. He played football at Evarts High School and earned his bachelor's degree in English from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky. He then taught high school English in Evarts, Ky., and later at a private prep school. Wynn was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during the last of the Vietnam era, earning recommendations and a purple heart when he was wounded in a firefight explosion. He married Harlan Countian Anne-Marie Begley and they lived in Illinois where he worked as a house painter and construction worker before moving to Tennessee in 1979. Mr. Wynn worked for many years at Oak Ridge Associated Universities at the NOAA facility. For the last three years he taught at a private school in west Tennessee. Mr. Wynn wrote fiction, poetry, and autobiographical novels for his own enjoyment, and he loved to sing and play the guitar. He was also an excellent gardener and an avid fly fisherman. During one outdoor excursion he plucked a tiny puppy out of a raging river and brought her safely home in his fishing vest. He was a very caring person to both animals and humankind. He is loved and missed by Anne-Marie and her brother, his longtime friend, John P. Begley; plus many other friends and co-workers. He is survived by brothers, James R. Wynn, Orville Wynn, and Marel English; sisters, Rhoda Selvey, Ruth Lamb, Gertrude Snyder, and Sharon English Davidoff; first cousins, Patsy Blevins, Paul Ed Blevins, and Arnold Sullivan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces and nephews. Plans for his memorial are incomplete at this time.
